Can't ignore the draft capital they gave up to get Lance too. If you have a healthy Super Bowl winning QB coming back in Purdy, its easy to keep Lance as the backup. Unfortunately the absolute worst case scenario for Purdy happened and now the 49ers will likely go into camp with Lance as QB1 again.
Giving up too much for a QB that doesn't pan out isn't going to get a GM or coach fired. Losing is. The same coach/GM combo drafted both Purdy and Lance, so as long as either one pans out for 2023 and beyond, they're good.

The 49ers are in a championship window right now. They're going to turn it over to the guy they think gives them the best chance to win right now. Given what both have shown on the field, I don't see how they just turn it over to Lance without a second thought because Purdy was hurt during the off season.

Niners signing Brady (or especially Rodgers) would be horrible. Just a really bad situation.
If Brock ends up needing Tommy John surgery and is out for 12 months a one year rental on Brady/Rodgers starts to make at least some sense if they have lost confidence in Lance.

That’s IF he needs Tommy John….then he’s out next year and yes Brady would maybe make sense from Purdy’s perspective for one year. But it sounds like Purdy is not looking to go in that direction and is going to do everything he can to be ready for this coming season.

IMO Rodgers is disaster because he could potentially have several years left and Purdy would be a hostage to whenever Rodgers decides to retire.

There is noise about Lance being traded to Tennessee.

More smoke…

Lol! So he talks about how Purdy doesn't have the talent worth building a dynasty around and plays Carson Palmers clip about Purdy not having enough arm strength to make it in the NFL. Then he moves on to defending Hurts and saying how being a QB is about a lot more than physical skills and talks about all these intangibles that Hurts has like leadership and swagger. Says Hurts is worth signing to a long term deal because of this. So he is literally defending Hurts from the exact same criticisms he was just saying about Purdy. Wow.

Rodgers is a cancer to be avoided.

Reggie is usually super active on Twitter but has gone radio silent since tweeting/RTing roughly 20 times about Purdy on Sunday night. What a total douche!

I realize he's not an official but there should really be some sort of malpractice issue there for saying all of that before a diagnosis was released.

You just know there will be lots of people that will always stick with the narrative that Purdy bailed despite actual medical evidence suggesting he probably shouldn't have even been cleared to play.

Reggie ran with his hot take for the clout. But he knows he ****** up, that's why he's laying low last couple days. As a former player, he should be able to say he reacted poorly and was wrong, that Purdy playing with that injury goes way beyond the toughness he was mocking. But he won't, because his mama raised a *****.

Absolute worse case is Brock being hurt last preseason. His injury blows, but he has shown many teams that he’s a viable option pending his elbow being healed (however it’s done). The 9ers go through QBs. Whoever starts probably isn’t starting 17 games for them.
