I thought this was an innocuous fun, list with a few mistakes but not needing the hyper-critical replies. Why don't the genius here re-write the list with better, accurate, worthy factoids connected to Iowa.

Anyway here's two that I like:

Iowa Gold Rush: Iowa has Gold? Yes! http://www.iowagold.com/iowagoldpages/iowa_gold_where_to_go.htm
There was also a fake Gold Rush back in the 1800's to attract settlers to the territory. The perpetrators were taken to task when the truth came out. Wish i could find this on the internet.

Sullivan Line: Bet you never heard of the Sullivan Line http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_Line and how it came to shape Iowa's southern border.

Yep, actually have heard about it. I also know about the Half-Breed tract and the Iowa v. Missouri Supreme Court decision, etc.

Good stuff.

28. Iowa actually has an island—Sabula—which has 576 inhabitants and is a popular summer beach destination for Chicagoans.

I drove through Sabula today on the way home from a wedding, and that's probably the last island I would ever go to, and I seriously doubt people from Chicago would be caught dead there. Maybe it's different without the massive flooding though.
