I'm actually more surprised by polls that have us in the top 20 than a "receiving votes" situation. Looking at the body of work from last year (average at best) and the loss of most of the offensive line and it should raise questions about the team. We are kind of a "wait and see" squad for now.

LMFAO at Texas at 13. Seriously, how many times are they gonna do this?

Now talk about the pieces we bring back... It's also worth noting Iowa State was one of the unluckiest teams last season.

I understand it since "Texas" and Sam Ellinger has shown that he can lead his team to wins in the past.

Texas A&M at 12 is MIND BOGGLING.
USC ranked is crazy talk.
Tennesee ranked? They don't really have Coach Duggs.
Also, Nebby receiving votes? That writer's career should be put to pasture.

I don't mind, I always feel that Iowa State seems to play it's best in sports when they don't get the preseason accolades and come out with a chip on their shoulder with something to prove.

This is also the same site that has Brock Purdy going in the 1st round of the 2021 NFL draft too so I wouldn't read too much into what they are putting out right now. https://247sports.com/ContentGallery/2021-NFL-Mock-Draft-145681526/

I don't think it's unreasonable that ISU is not in pre-season top 25. Questions on the O-line, and we kind of quietly slipped to 45th in total defense last year...

It's not trash if it turns out to be pretty good. All pre-season polls are nothing but conversation pieces.

B1G looking loaded. I think UT might have a break out year, and could win either LSU, or OU and still end up near top10.

A&M doesn't surprise me too much. Their schedule last year was brutal. Their 5 loses were all to top 10 teams (Clemson, Auburn, Bama, Georgia, LSU), 3 of which were ranked #1 when the Aggies played them.

USC seems a little high, and could fall out quickly. Todd Orlando seems like a gamble seeing as how his tenure at Texas ended.

Tennesee is riding late season hype and recency bias. Probably shouldn't be ranked.

Nebby receiving votes doesn't strick me a bad take. Frost said from the beginning it would take a few years to turn things around, so having some higher expectations going into year 3 makes sense.

Just funny how many of these ranked teams are near the bottom in returning production. Yes, teams like Ohio State can probably just reload, but not sure about all of them.

At least Texas returns quite a bit. Michigan was once again mediocre last year, returns very little, yet once again gets overrated.

No kidding; probably one of the most difficult ever that I recall. I have heard the B8 at one time in the early '70s had Nebby, OU and CU ranked 1,2,3 and maybe MizzU in the top 25.

To be receiving votes pre-season for Nebraska, it could be based on the fact that they start off with the first 7 games they will likely be favored in each of those games. Five of their first six games are at home. Their first two road games are Northwestern and Rutgers. So if they are 7-0 or even 6-1 they could be ranked just because everyone else has actually played good teams by then. Now they will be underdogs in their final 5 games, so no way they finish ranked.

247's Big 12 rankings
https://247sports.com/Article/Big-1...layer-of-the-year-game-of-the-year-147996879/
1. Oklahoma
2. Oklahoma State
3. Texas
4. Iowa State
5. TCU
6. Baylor
7. Kansas State
8. Kansas
9. West Virginia
10. Texas Tech

1 through 4 seems to be the way most in the national media are predicting the conference.

Also, its weird seeing KU not at 10, but both WVU and Tech are in rebuild mode, and Miles seems to be making strides.
