I know it's just two games... but Caleb Williams has "bust" written all over him. I get it - the Bears' OL can't protect him and their WRs can't get open. But he simply doesn't look composed or good. And even if most of that is due to the team he's playing on, in that case the Bears are going to ruin him. Either way - he's on his way to being just the latest #1 draft pick QB bust.

I think he has the physical talent to be special. But he needs a better coach to teach him. It seems he’s been held back by having so many weapons in college that he’s never really had do anything but throw to the open guy. We’ve seen a lot of QBs from power schools never really learn how to read and manipulate a defense, while lesser known guys from smaller programs come in an excel because they’ve had to do that their entire career. Stroud seems to be the exception lately of guys from blue blood schools to make it.

Never said they weren’t good. They are the best team period. Doesn’t mean they haven’t had their fair share of good fortune like many other good teams. The defensive back didn’t even need to try and go through the WR. That ball wasn’t going to be completed.
Why do you think it was unwatchable? Rice would have jumped and brought it in. It wasn’t very high.

Nothing about these first two games have made me think that Caleb is anything other than another Justin Fields. Slow decisions and poor throws when a WR creates separation. Media did him no favors by hyping him up. He’s just going to be another mediocre NFL QB that relied on his athleticism in college to make plays.

When everyone else is just as athletic as you, your flaws really start to show.
JFC, it's 2 games. Didn't Aikman go 1-15 his first year?

Daniels and Richardson looked like complete busts today also. Then you have guys like Bo Nix who shouldn't even be starting yet. And ICYMI Fields is still terrible for a different team.

Give it some time, Houston has a legit D.

You guys are just spoiled by Stroud and Mahomes, who are the exceptions, not the norm.

Williams is Fields without the possibility of running. Fields looked better with worse talent the last 4 years.

It's 8 quarters. Not time to panic

But if he doesn't progress we could be back in the doom loop. Head coach goes. New guy comes in. QB isn't his guy. Draft a new guy and start over.

That said. Eberflus sucks

There’s zero chance I let this staff draft another QB. The QB comes last. Start with building an offensive line and get weapons. Then bring in a QB. Getting a rookie killed is not a way to build a winning team.

I'd be happy if Eberflus didn't make it to next week.

Marc Trestman vibes. Without the "smarts" reputation.

He just ran for 44 yards last night. Ffs, at least know what you're talking about before posting. It might be part of the game plan to not let him run much yet because of injury concerns.

I thought the bears o-line was supposed to be somewhat decent this year. Caleb looked like he won't make it to week 8 if he gets beat up like that every game.

Williams looks like he struggles to play within structure. He loves to run around and throw on the move similar to Johnny Manziel.

Houston's d-line just bullied the Bears o-line. Per Windy City Gridiron (Bears' SB Nation): Williams was pressured on 23 of 48 (48%) drop backs and sacked 7 times. He was 20 of 25 when there was no blitz, and 3 of 12 against the blitz. And the run game wasn't working any better. If you exclude Caleb scrambling, the Bears had 27 yards on 17 rushes.

Demeco is a savvy defensive guy with a loaded defensive roster, and he used it to make the bears one dimensional and keep the rookie uncomfortable.

People giving up on Caleb/calling him a bust after 2 games playing behind one of the worst offensive lines I've ever seen is pure comedy.
I wouldn't label him a bust, but games like last night can wreck a young QBs confidence pretty quickly. Plenty of examples of young QBs who were never the same after a season of getting blown up due to poor o-line play.

I didn't get that impression at all. It looks like he wants to stand in the pocket and read the field, but just didn't have the time with Houston's pass rush.

Peyton Manning wouldn’t have lasted in today’s social media age it seems. His rookie year he threw 28 interceptions! Team was 3-13. I’m not saying Caleb is Peyton but this rookies get thrust into starting so early and aren’t given any time to learn before we (the media, fans, etc.) label them a bust.

Yep people need to look up Elway, Aikman, Bradshaw, etc. rookie stats. Bradshaw had 6 TD's & 24 interceptions!

Bradshaw was a bit of a different era. Murder on a receiver cutting across the middle was encouraged.

But the stat that still stands out from his first year is the 38.1 completion percentage. That's NUTS.

Disagree. Houston's defense had free run at him all night. The Bears O-line and O-coordinator need to get back to the drawing board.
