What's another $10M to the $250M in debt? The Athletic Department at Iowa is broke.

True, but the amount would be north of $4.5M for this year. Fran is under contract until 2028, and it appears the university would owe Fran 60% of his remaining salary if he were to be fired. Put the two together, and Iowa would be paying nearly $11M to bring in DeVries for next season. He wouldn't pay anything, it would be Iowa paying.

I just don't see it happening from a financial perspective alone
ACC doesn’t look like they are good at this NIL stuff.Want to know how bad the ACC is, the league could easily get only 3 teams into the bracket...
Also, Louisville currently zero Q1 games left on their schedule until the ACC tourney. They could easily win out and challenge Duke for the ACC title, despite losing H2H on 12/8.
You can't make this stuff up
Why would Fran leave money on the table?Iowa can't afford a buyout; heck, they can't even afford to pay back the university the money they borrowed to cover expenses from COVID.
If anything, Fran will "retire" after this year since his son graduates from high school, and they will relocate to Indiana. He will negotiate some kind of payout for the rest of his contract and ride off into the sunset.
As for DeVries, why would you want that dumpster fire? If Fran leaves, who stays, Harding, young Sandfort, Mulvey? Dix and Freeman will go portaling, and the freshmen don't play, so who knows what you are getting with them? That program will be a complete rebuild if Fran leaves.
If he is "fired," he gets 60% of his remaining base salary, which is 10.8 million. The 60% buyout is 6.48 million dollars (2025-2028). I'm sure he'd be happy not to coach and make 2.16 million dollars for the last three years of his contract. A good lawyer will negotiate a nice payout so Fran never has to worry about money. Why would Fran leave money on the table?
I’m just responding to comments that Fran would quit or negotiate a settlement. Fran has all the leverage. Beth doesn’t.If he is "fired," he gets 60% of his remaining base salary, which is 10.8 million. The 60% buyout is 6.48 million dollars (2025-2028). If McCaffery were to be fired by the university, he would be owed 60% of his remaining base salary.

Fran McCaffery signs contract extension with Iowa through 2027-28 season
McCaffery will be 68 years old when his latest contract extension expires.www.hawkcentral.com
Iowa had two chances to win a natty in women’s basketball and the Swarm spent $500,000 on McNamara.Only way DeVries comes is if they guarantee a chunk of NIL. Kirk would veto that. I guess these Hawkeye fans are not the brightest so there is always that chance that he wants to yell go hawks at random people.
At least you got your money's worthThat's nuts. I had to pay way more to watch my 2nd grade grandson play this weekend.![]()
$3 seems high
I searched Amazon for things under $3. Any one of these would be a better investment:
