True, but the amount would be north of $4.5M for this year. Fran is under contract until 2028, and it appears the university would owe Fran 60% of his remaining salary if he were to be fired. Put the two together, and Iowa would be paying nearly $11M to bring in DeVries for next season.

I'm sure he'd be happy not to coach and make 2.16 million dollars for the last three years of his contract. A good lawyer will negotiate a nice payout so Fran never has to worry about money.
