Better the 2 wins then 2 losses. Always fun to beat a name brand school even if they aren't as good as usual. Just my opinion.

Yeah that part was great.

It's also good if ISU wins a couple of non-con games that aren't against a brand, but those opponents end up making the tournament.

Those wins certainly didn't hurt anything. At season's end those opponents were roughly 45 and 70 NET ... I think madguy30's point is comparing impact of those in real-time vs. actual was a large gap.

UNC was anomaly, rarely does a #1 AP preseason fall off the map to that extreme.

Pretty sure it was the first time it happened...ranked #1 to no tournament.

Brand, sure, but ISU's two wins, while great at the time, didn't amount to much on the real-time resume for the season.

In the off-season, when your schedule comes out, I'd rather have Nova and UNC/Oregon on my schedule so talking heads don't call it a soft schedule

However, at the end of the season, you want as many Q1 wins with no bad losses (Q3-Q4)..

Early schedule is blah, but yet the Cyclones by the end of the season may have one of the toughest schedules in the nation. Maybe a positive will be getting some cheaper seats from folks wanting to unload tickets to games they don't want to attend. It's a way for me to take the family to a few games without "donating a car" each year.

The common take is Big 12 schedule will have enough impact to balance most weakness in the non-con. Only uncertainty this season, since it won't be double round robin, we don't know which opponents we're getting. I imagine KU & KSU both are home/away, but not sure how the others will be distributed. Do we get 1 or 2 vs. Baylor, Texas, Houston (??) ... It'll be five 2-fers and 8 singles. Will ISU get strapped with 2 vs. UCF?

That won't be a significant concern, but it's more difficult to assess in-league impact.
