Max's performance last night has to be one of the most impressive I've seen out of a person who got brought on in a pinch hit scenario. He orchestrated all of our offense from that point on and had a few huge plays in right field to save some runs. Love the players he and Polanco have become, especially after the money we invested in them this off-season.

17 innings of great baseball for the Twins. Huge lift for the bullpen's confidence.
Hopefully they have on their hitting shoes tonight and take the series.

If the Twins win tonight, the East Coast media may give the flyover Twins a bit more respect. I always want them to win but I also kind of don't want to lose the "nobody believes in us" mentality.

WSJ had an article on how the Twins have constructed the most powerful lineup in baseball, yesterday. Even then, while giving praise to the Twins, it was still written in a "The Twins, I know, I'm as surprised as you are" tone but at least they are taking notice!

Twins/BoSox got at least a little bit of a break in that they didn't have a 1200 matinee game today!

Like Twins fans thought they would be running away with the division and the race would essentially be over in May?

It is, objectively, the biggest surprise in baseball this year. Every field player they signed came up gold (the signings for last year came up snake eyes) and every young starting pitcher is pitching to or above expectations. Not saying this is a fluke by any means, they are real as real can be at this point, but ain't nobody was predicting this.

I love watching them beat teams with ridiculous payrolls getting anyone they want. It's good for the sport to see a smaller market get in there and shake things up. Go Twins!

Agree that nobody would have predicted the Twins to have the best record in baseball in the middle of June.
I think what is frustrating to Twins fans is the fact that when talking heads list top WS contenders
it's Dodgers, Astros, Yankees followed by the second tier of Braves, Cubs, Rays, and Twins. How the team with the best record in the Bigs isn't mentioned as a contender is not giving the Twins their due.

Is regression to the mean a real thing here, or are the Twins legit contenders? Obviously the bullpen needs bolstering, but should they also be looking to add a starter? Berrios, Gibson, and Odo are all solid starters. Perez is OK and Pineda is super iffy. Also Odo has never pitched this well in his career. Can't expect him to keep performing at this level, although it'd be nice and certainly hope he does

At the beginning of the season the Twins were nice little surprise, then everyone was shocked with their homerun rate, but then it was all because of a supposedly light schedule. Talking heads are waiting for the regression to the mean. It is the Twins, after all.
But, (and a big one) if they can add two power arms to close, the Twins, position to position, are as good as anybody.

I firmly believe Rocco and Matt Campbell are related in some way or form.

Too bad we got the pre-2019 version of Kyle Gibson last night. Too many walks and couldn't locate the ball. While we have two solid starters in Berrios and Odo, it gets iffy at a playoff level after that.
No doubt Falvey will add bullpen help at the trade deadline, but it will be interesting to see if the Twins also go after a starter.

July is going to be interesting since the trade deadline comes earlier now. Lot of talk about how teams have to decide earlier on throwing in the towel and making trades. Although, unless things change drastically, only three of the six divisions have races so there should be plenty of "sellers" . Decision will be around the wildcard and teams (Cleveland maybe) having to decide if they can catch the 2nd and 3rd place AL East teams. Also, still a lot of "buyers" to compete with from AL East (3) and NL Central (2). Will be interesting to see what teams are willing to give up for the few quality starters that are likely to be available. No doldrums of summer this year!

Losing 2/3 to Boston isn’t terrible. Losing 3/4 this weekend would be.

Not saying that Twins fans were. Although I did have a belief they would be competitive this year, and it had more to do with the players coming back (surprisingly), and the additions have been a very welcome surprise. Only reason I brought it up is because this is not the first time a minnesota sports team having success is painted in this light for articles. The fact that seemingly any time (recently) a Minnesota sports team is the midst of success there is compliments, but only in the vein of "wow, would you look at that" or "its cute Minnesota is having the success", which I understand from people who don't see the twins daily, but as a national sports journalist it becomes stale and overused. To that point, however, I'm never expecting a journalist from the coast to give the Twins love without some of their point of view coming through.

Objectively I think a lot of it has to do with the Twins only advancing in postseason once since their World Series win in 1991. You can't expect everyone to jump on the bandwagon. They are 6-22 in post season play this century and are on a 13 straight game losing streak. Fans can play the "get no respect card" but that's a pretty dismal record and one good 1/2 season isn't going to just erase that immediately. Quite a few of those Twins teams weren't that good and got postseason because the division sucked. This team is different and better and would earn post season regardless of division and can maybe change the perception by doing something in the postseason.

And, don't confuse talking heads on ESPN or Fox with real sports journalists. They aren't.

I am not saying they are wrong for doing what they did/have done/wrote. I was just stating my annoyance in their inability to not do it when writing about them haha. It's just very non-original. I'll put it that way.
Also, I am talking about Journalists solely. ESPN doesn't even talk about the twins if it isn't a highlight hahah, MLB network does a good job covering the game all around.

Why do you care, Yankee fan, go back to your team and read the articles about how they are gods gift to this green earth. #jimlad

I highly recommend subscribing to The Athletic. They have articles covering the Twins probably 2-4 times a week. Usually there is a tie-in to player's background as well. Really fun stuff to read.

Because I've lived here for over 40 years? ;)

Speaking of 40 years ago, I kinda miss the old Met Stadium and just being able to park in that big parking lot, tailgate a little and walk up and buy box seat tickets down the 3rd baseline. And buying beer from Maceo Breedlove, the last great beer vendor. He'd played in the old Negro Leagues and was already an old man by the late 1970's. He was a cool dude.
