Same, I don't cheer for Lee because he's a Hawkeye, but he hasn't given me any reason to actively cheer against him like a lot of Hawkeyes over the years, including those two.

Like last year, I would have preferred that they wouldn't have had a champion. But I was a whole lot less annoyed by it being Clark than Gilman. This year we came really close to them not having a finalist, which would have been great. But if they had to have one it might as well be Lee.

What difference does it make if he is a Hawkeye or not? Watching wrestlers like him is a treat no matter who they wrestle for. The only time I will wish him to lose is each year against an Iowa State wrestler. He looks to score and more importantly he looks to end matches early.

The post match interview with Nickal was great as he states "You come to Penn State to win championships" in Columbus. Can't wait for next year already.

It was in Cleveland, not Columbus, but yeah he was in Buckeye Country.

The one post-match interview I didn't see was Nickal's. Speaking of Lee, and the rest: they were all pretty good representatives of the sport. No one was a Richard, or talked about being Superman. If I had a microphone and a dumb question thrown in my face after a match, I might be a little churlish.

Yes, he is.

They mentioned that him going up against Coon would be like Spencer Lee going up against Bo Nickal, as far as the weight differential goes.
I heard that. I think that using a percentage would be a better comparison. Using weight differential in terms of percentage and it would be like Lee going up against Jason Nolf.

Just out of curiosity what's your beef with Marinelli?

Not exactly sure.

I don’t really have an opinion of him, but will say I don’t care for his open handed punches he calls measuring. Saw the match with Imar, can’t remember if I’d seen him otherwise, and that flat out was cheap shots.

Looks like Penn state is the probable winner next year. Who looks to have the guns for 2020 after Penn state will have lost reth, Nolf and nickel?

They just keep bringing in stacks of blue-chippers. Going to be tough for anyone to step up to that level. But I do like where Iowa is sitting for 2020, especially if we can bring in a high-level transfer at 33.

It's just like we would root for (or against) a team in any sport.

I do not disagree with your thought process on the team aspect. The sport of wrestling is so individual based for greatness, I think of the cheering aspect differently.

I think one hurdle Iowa may have for 2020 is if Lee wins a title next year. I very well could see him going with an ORS, very well could qualify as good as he is. Drop him for a year and that could knock them out for the title.

Was it the tsirtish that was the national champ or the guy that wanted to get out of town show up?

Regardless, I am highly optimistic we have guys to compete at a dual level. Top 20 in the NCAAs but if David Carr could be our spencer Lee then who knows.

Get a couple of runs by guys trending upwards we could hit the top 15.
Our guys just need better coaching, which they have now, so we should be respectable next year.

We need more donors and ticket sales to keep this going!

Go Cyclones

I hope for good news in the near future and I hope KD pushes the Cyclone Wrestling campaign hard again this off season!

I hope more fans start to support the programs both physical and financially. I know Dresser has 5 or so CRTC events planned this summer already

My summary from Cleveland. Not a bad drive. Stayed at South Bend on Tuesday night and toured Notre Dame Wednesday morning (Touchdown Jesus, Basillica church, and couple other buildings), then went to Cleveland and toured Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Thursday morning, lines were long getting into Quicken Loans Stadium. Walk was easy from Renaissance Motel. Gambled at Jack's Casino.

Friday morning, lines were still long. Easy walking to most places. All 3 stadiums (Browns, Cavs, and Indians) were right there.

Fanfest was down by Browns stadium and not well marked. Had a tough time finding it Friday.

The Interview at Fanfest on Saturday between Gable and Owings was awesome to listen to. Got the feeling that Gable is still not over that loss.

Wrestling was great. Conel of Kent State is awesome to watch. Great tourney by Perry of Eastern Michigan and by Wilson of NC State.

Good crowds at the socials by Iowa State fans, esp with only 1 wrestler competing. Had a great talk with Derek St John at Saturday social.

Sunday, we extended our trip and went to Niagara Falls. Another 3.5 hours in the wrong direction. Well worth it. We brought our passports along and went to the Canadian side. Much more exciting than US side.

Monday headed back to Cleveland and went to The Christmas Story House and took the tour. Pretty interesting location and interesting story.

Then headed home and got there at 12:30 AM this morning.

Met some great Cyclones (Good meeting you Chris!)

Not much of an insult to say Carr won't be as good as Lee. Spencer Lee is probably the greatest high school wrestler in American history, and just dominated his way to a national title as a true freshman.

Maybe Carr will be as good; who knows? He could be half as good and still be an awesome Cyclone.

Jimmy Carr might disagree. Just sayn
