YES!!!

We are two days closer to kicking off the 2008 Cyclone Football Season!

Oh wait you all are having a serious discussion here.

I am for Thursday nights game, IF, they are for a National Televised Audience against a decent, still cake, opponent. But I will take what I can get, since we will only have 6 days of crazy ISU football, tailgating action!

-keep.

I love how you responded to my post with this. I've never met Pollard. If I did, I probably wouldn't use the time to talk about how I don't like Thursday games. That is why I email him with my work account that has every conceivable way to contact me in it. And yes, I've emailed him to let him know how I feel about certain things like this.

But if you think it will make me more of a man, I'll yell, "JP! Thursday games suck dood!" next time he passes my section in basketball.

I agree. You can't agree with everything a person does and in this respect I disagree with JP. Well, on second thought he may be right and we just have a lot of lame fans who really won't show up for a labor day saturday game. In which case I guess he has come to terms with it better than I have. Way to go JP!

It's relevant to the arguement of "it doesn't matter when - I'll be there". Yes - I was once 20 as well. And had plenty of spare time and could do whatever on my $100 all sports pass. Now I'm 36 and am a little more frugal with what costs me $1300 for 6 games.

Yes I am. I think it's rather reflective if not scientifically accurate. But I notice you don't chastize the other poster who did this initially. Perhaps because it doesn't suit your purpose or viewpoint? :skeptical:

I've said as much. And it's amazingly bad form to tell somebody what to do with their time or vacation. BTW - I have this afternoon off and will be leaving soon for my wife's grandfathers funeral. Ok - this is a lie. But care to say anything else about me or my job?

Who said any such thing?

Wow - impressive. :nah:

What do you do for an encore? Pull pig tails and beat up other kids for their lunch money?

You can't compare ISU's ticket prices with Texas. I guarantee you that Longhorn fans pay several hundred dollars more per seat in required donations.

well, you can compare anything you want. It might not be a fair comparison but very little on this topic involves logic.

Season Ticket Priority Policy - Back to top
Orders received prior to the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled before all other ticket orders, including individual game orders. The priority handling deadline date is May 31, 2007. All orders are filled in the following priority:
1. Longhorn Foundation donors (When filling single game tickets for Longhorn Foundation members, Longhorn Legacy level donors are filled first.)
2. UT letterwinners
3. Voting faculty / Code 1000 staff members (according to the UT Office of Human Resources)
4. Dues-paying Texas Exes members
5. General public
6. Ticket requests received after the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled by date of receipt. Priority handling no longer applies.

They do fill general public season tickets every year.

I don't know anybody who would rather have that game on Thursday over Saturday.

I am one of those people. That is because my wedding was going to be the day of the first game and I would have had to miss it. Now I get to go!!!

Ok - present company excluded. However, as somebody who was married rather recently, I have to tell you that I'm skeptical of your "availablity" for the game, even on Thursday.

Best of luck - you'll never have as much fun again in your life as you will the next 9 months. :skeptical::biglaugh:

Well - for starters, 48% isn't a majority at all.

Second - What do you think that poll would look like if they moved all the games to Thurs?

Point being, what this poll does say is that over 1/4 of our fans DON'T like the game. Using this years attendance - that's ball park 12.5K. Not doing the program a service by hacking off 1/4 of the ticket holders, are we? What is also says is that we should only really expect 38-40K for this game. That's a reach, because although I don't like the Thursday game - I most likely will make it as will probably most others.

I should've split the vote into two parts - students and non-students. Have a feeling that is a consideration.

Spin-tastic. You should work for a campaign.

They take orders for them. It says nothing about filling them.

Let's put it this way - I know you can get season tickets with a 100 dollar donation to UT. I have some friends that are alumni. I'm sure there are several people on this board that spend 100 dollars on a donation and 350 dollars for tickets. That is an almost exact price that Texas fans are paying.

I'm just saying, as far as ticket prices go, we are charging as much as anybody in the conference. I couldn't find oklahoma's prices. I'll look up more tomorrow. But I'm pretty sure our ticket prices are VERY competitive, especially considering we're offering only 6 games. That's almost 59$ a ticket. I believe the big 12 average was something just over 50 last year.

What part of it was spin?

Well, first of all, its funny to read the first 50 or so posts about all the hate for the Thursday game - then the addition of the poll to, what? I guess prove the point.

Then it backfires bigtime - 75% of people perfectly cool with the Thursday game. Then the explanations of the poll results start coming in:
  • It was made wrong
  • Its not a representative sample
  • 25% disagree actually proves the point

Spin-tastic

Whatever make you feel good _jer.

But here's how I see it. 25% of the fans DON'T like the game. 50% do, another 25 don't care.

Do you think that matches up with a Saturday game? You think 25% of the people would say they don't like games on Saturday? Because I don't. Maybe that woud be skewed due to it being a holiday weekend.

However the attendance figures the past 7 years or so don't really support that, now do they?

Also - I'm not the one who said it was a representative sample. I agreed that you can't draw conclusions from it. So that point goes nowhere for you.

And I pointed out that I should've broken this out between the two demographics since the decision to have the game on Thurs serves one of those dems huge, and has been admitted to by JP. Never said what's up there is invalid. FWIW, and the more I think of it, I should've also included an option for people who like it because now they CAN go where they otherwise couldn't. That would seem to be an important consideration as well.

25% not liking the Thursday game is HUGE. That is a HUGE percentage of ticketholders. MUCH more than it would be for any Saturday game. There is no spin here and the poll has very much proven the point.

If anything this site caters to alot of students and recent grads who have much more flexible lifestyles. With that being the case and we are still getting 25%! That is HUGE!

I like the Thursday night game -- just one though. I think it's a good way to kick off the season. As a student, it's a nice break from classes early in the year, and you have the weekend wide open (weather you end up going home or staying in town). I think it's kind of cool being one of the first teams to play a game.

I don't mind the Thursday night game. Gives me an excuse to take Thursday and Friday off and have a 5 day weekend.

However, keeping the ticket prices the same with one fewer game on the schedule and no Iowa....well, I'm not down with that. If they had even made it a nominal decrease of $20 or so, I'm sure that would have satisfied most ticketholders. I don't have the schedule for 2009 in front of me right now, but what if we get one more home game than 2008? You think the ticket prices will remain the same? Nope...they'll go up because, well, we have one more game on the schedule than the previous year.

JP is on a slippery slope here. As Bryce pointed out earlier in the thread, we're all starting to pony up a lot of cash and we're getting up there in relation with all the other "winning" programs. We've been told that it takes money to become a winner. Well, we're giving a lot of money, the winning better start soon or fan support will begin dwindling again.
