RECRUITING: Iowa State earns commitment from Army WR transfer

My GUESS is 2 years... 2020: First year he only played 2 games and it was 2020 (so free COVID year) 2021/2022: Used two years of eligibility (over 4 games each year) 2023: Appears to have only played in 4 games meaning he may have asked to red shirt in order to transfer. (Note that he led Army...

    I'll gladly eat crow...

So, with 1:12 to play and again with 30 seconds left, and finally with 10.7 seconds left, we come out of a timeout on defense, I was a little surprised to see Momcilovic on the floor each time. Thought maybe they go offense/defense subs there. But, it worked out fine.. just thought it was...

    I'll gladly eat crow...

Love Momcilovic! Just want them to get him as many quality looks as they can. Make teams try to take him away and things will get easier for everyone else. He got some shots at OU at the end of that one. They just didn’t fall. I’ll take my chances with Milan any game. He’s the best shooter on...

B12 Unbalanced Schedules (from the Williams & Blum conversation)

This is an interesting view too... I took a look at the BYU vs. ISU schedules since those were ranked #1 and #14 by BPI. If you break down the B12 into tiers based on betting odds like this: Then here is a compare of the two schedules: Basically, ISU plays two more games vs. tier 1...

B12 Unbalanced Schedules (from the Williams & Blum conversation)

Updated now that all teams only have their 18 B12 games remaining (Oklahoma State played Chicago St last night). So, they went from 13th to 5th. Others really didn't change much. I agree with many of the posts... KU is WAY undervalued by this metric. I think Houston is WAY over valued as well...

B12 Unbalanced Schedules (from the Williams & Blum conversation)

That is correct… again.. based on bpi. I don’t think this is a perfect. But it’s one measure. Right now it shows the 14 B12 schedules as being the 14 most difficult to go schedules in the country.

B12 Unbalanced Schedules (from the Williams & Blum conversation)

I thought one interesting way to see which teams in the conference got the hardest / easiest conference schedules (based on the Williams & Blum conversation today) would be to look at the ESPN BPI rankings. JP must have done something to piss off Brett Yormark... the remaining B12 schedules are...

    ISU Win/Loss Projections ESPN FPI

I think there are a couple key points... 1) I don't think the power rankings do a very good job of adjusting for year to year changes in roster / coaches and it is similar to vegas power ratings where early in the season last years performance impacts this a lot. So, iowa may be a bit under...

    ISU Win/Loss Projections ESPN FPI

I would tend to agree… they clearly put a lot of value on home field. I was also surprised by being favored @ BYU, and would argue we will be more competitive in the tx/OU games.

    ISU Win/Loss Projections ESPN FPI

Thought this was interesting... FPI has us favored in our first 4 games, then only 2 of our last 8. Favored in 4 of 6 at home, underdog in 4 of 6 on the road. EDIT: Updating this with the week 1 results in (9/5/2023): Win Total now at 6.472 and games we are favored in jumped from 6 to...

College Football 12 Team Playoff Analysis

At this point, I think we are down to a P4. Not sure what happens to PAC, but whatever they do it will be a G6 league now. Looking back at the last 9 seasons, the remaining G5 + Remaining PAC teams would have averaged 0.7 teams per playoff the last 9 years. So, giving them at least 1 slot for...

College Football 12 Team Playoff Analysis

Honestly, I think there are two big risks: 1) The P2 end up with 8 Bids due to the "eye test", only 1 at large bid available for ACC/B12/ND so more often then not you end up with only the champ going. 2) With all of the money coming in for the P2 they either a. redirect TV dollars to pay...

College Football 12 Team Playoff Analysis

Since we have the current* rules for how the 12 team playoff will be selected and we have the playoff standings going back to 2014, we can see what the make up of the proposed 12 team playoff would have been from 2014-2022. *Current rules could change based on all of the re-alignment. For...

Offensive and Defensive Line Trends CMC Era

Yes original plan was to augment this data with things like All Conf data, starts, recruiting rank, number of P5 offers, PFF grades, snaps played… etc. But have not had time to compile additional data yet. If I get a chance to add the rest of the data I will post it. But kids and work take...

Offensive and Defensive Line Trends CMC Era

Yes… I think there were multiple factors that impacted o-line production. Part recruiting, part development. Hoping the new O-line coach + the new S&C director will solve the issues. Maybe with the experience and size in the room it goes faster than we think. Maybe he will need a couple years…...

    CMC Roster by Region

I would argue that reducing dependence on tx, fl, and ca is probably a good thing for ISU. Iowa State was not getting top tier talent from those states... you are better off getting the best of the midwest (+26) than fighting with everyone else for the leftovers in tx/fl/ca (-30). If you can...
