Not sure how many of you are gamers out there, but my two worlds collided on Youtube this morning when I came across Esfand's tailgate tour, and he was at the Iowa State/Iowa game. Take a look!
I get that, my point was there are likely enough teams left in the Big 12 without a great landing spot, that the dismantling likely doesn't happen in the next handful of years, or at all.
One problem I see in this hope that ISU sticks around long enough for the check and then bolts for the Big 10 is....wouldn't we be subject to the same penalty if we leave early? And why would some of these lesser Big 12 schools agree to dissolve the conference when they likely have no home? This...
Still holding this view? In the past 24 hrs, my scenario is looking pretty good. There's no way the Big 10 sits this one out while other conferences go to 16. Whatever you believe about 'prestige' will be overruled by the need to keep parity with 16 team conferences.
You're right, but you're also losing less than by doing nothing at all...you only lose prestige if the teams you bring in would be in the bottom half. Guess we'll agree to disagree.
Why is it necessary that a superleague fall underneath the SEC umbrella? Why wouldn't the Big 10 keep pace to be a natural partner (think division) when the superleague stuff comes about?
I get the sentiment that adding ISU to the Big 10 is not a net positive for revenue, but look at the coming landscape. If Tx and OU bolt, the Big 10 will be forced to join the arms race, and keep parity with the SEC. Even if a school like ISU won't bring in the median revenue of the current...
If Wigginton is here for 1 or 2 more years, I don't see this board liking the results of those seasons anyway.
In other words, if Wigginton leaves, that's probably a good indication the team is having good success.
Royce, thank you for doing the podcast - I found it to be thought provoking. I'm sorry this thread is filled with ISU "fans" who choose to be salty to a guy who did so much for the basketball program. They do not represent the majority of Cyclone Nation. Unfortunately half this thread has been...
In my opinion, staying the OC at a school like Ohio State and having some success will produce better options than being HC at Iowa State where there seemingly is always a talent margin...but what do I know, I'm only a genius in Mensa.
