USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Of course they'll make it work. BUT, the fact remains: travel budgets and student demands suffer. They may not eat through all of it, but non-revenue sports will cost a lot more.

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Played right, better than 'left overs'.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

For what it's worth here's a quote from a source which had decades inside the P12 office... "Longest conference road trip for LA schools was to Seattle, Pullman and Boulder. Each at 1,100 miles. Shortest trip in the Big Ten will be to Lincoln at 1,500 miles. Those schools will eat up that 100...

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Agree. However, the next contract is the biggie. If the B12 makes a power play and acquires some more major markets, the next contract would very likely be an Apple/Amazon play. If that happens, who the hell cares about standard cable/TV feeds. Streaming is already done at every TV set with...

Agree. Enter better marketing for our league required.

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Very bold play, but also very risky. I, for one, am not interested in an amateur NFL league. And, two, I doubt the egos of the power schools will stomach sub-500 records. And, finally, the only stability in something this grand would require a parity mechanism (eg draft from a high school...

    Prediction for USC/UCLA postmortem.

Of all the posts, the one I have not yet seen is this: The P2 expand their rosters and add 2 more games. This will further deplete available athletes for the other leagues, increase the P2's revenue stream, and further distance themselves from the rest. PLEASE B12 be ahead of this play.

    Brandon Henderson Commits

I'm just dumbfounded how many people have leapt to 'paying players'. NIL and that are far apart. That said, the system is moving in that direction. But, IMO, if they get too far down the road on this, the government is going to have a significant impact on 'take home' pay, ownership...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

During times like this they're open 24/7 ;)

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Add to that the financial travel burden of those sports popular on the west coast. If Stanford goes to B1G, I see several non-revenue sports being cut.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

And, if/when that happens, attrition results in worse records, worse viewership and ultimate demise. They need their bottom feeders.

Looks like Yormark's start date has moved up. If it hasn't, it certainly should be.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Talk like this without mentioning government intervention/taxation/control is silly. By the time they're paying those figures to players, ESPN will be designated 'owner' of the conference, and the whole caboodle is a completely different ballgame.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Don't be offended, but I'm not sure what you're saying. Do you think fewer or more than 25% of all (ie ALL other NCAA football enthusiasts) NCAA eyeballs will be watching those schools in the playoff? I know I wouldn't and I love college football. But my love for it is when it's associated...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

My old inside source for Pac12 info says that's it for Bowl games. Now every venue will be lobbying for a seat at the 'playoff' scenarios. That's still a lot of empty stadiums during the holidays. Very very sad.

    Ideal conference size

I'd agree, but with the caveat of a well governed overall body of enforcement. The NCAA utterly failed at their job, thus allowing the super conferences to seize control. Now, this likely was a planned coup by the SEC of which the B1G is now following. But, eventually, collective bargaining...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Let's say there's a championship between the B1G and the SEC with 25% of NCAA eyeballs and a championship among the other 75% of eyeballs; I'm not seeing the overwhelming difference. Yes, the 'conference' championship games will also draw, but so will the...

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Thanks. It'd be really interesting to see the breakdown of the percent of 'away' fans. If for no other reason than the difference in attendance (between 29 and 40) could be attributed to how well the other fan base travels. So, while USC and UCLA bring the opponent, it's unlikely their fans...

Who is best for the Big 12?

I don't like hypocrisy, but even I fall into the category here. I agree with you UNLESS ISU gets a seat at the B1G table.

USC/UCLA to the Big Ten in 24?

Still thinking Fox and ESPN will not be able to control the total NCAA audience. The rest of the P5 has just as much dedicated viewership as the P2. And given the ever-growing bottom feeders in the P2, they'll create bad matchups which the networks will regret. I'm not a marketing person, but...
