People are moving to the Midwest

Census Bureau estimates from July 2022 - July 2023 show every midwest state growing (albeit slowly) with the exception of Illinois. Quite a bit different than the previous year that had Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, and Kansas all losing population. Be interesting to see if the trend continues.

    Buying a house in Iowa...

I had family in Algona for a lot of years, not a big city by any means, but decent sized town with very friendly people. Obviously been in the news for all the wrong reasons more recently, so I don’t know if that’s changed since my family moved away from there. Humboldt itself has one of the...

    Cyclone Football Twitter

If that last picture had been the second one that tweet would have been unintentional comedy gold.

    Cyclone Football Twitter

I would never have guessed dog meat looks so much like beef.

What logo would you vote for now?

Of those 3, I like the I State. I would prefer one that incorporates the Cyclone somehow though.

    ***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

There is some probability of having statistically normal rainfall as well. It appears from the graphic that is around 33%, so essentially you have a 74% probability of normal to above normal rainfall. As far as improving on severe drought, I would assume you could have some degree lesser than...

We had some ground water testing done at work this week, the water level beneath that monitoring well had risen nearly 15 feet from the previous check early this spring. NE Iowa.

Not sold on up coming season(especially)oline again

No doubt about it. It seems the difference in opinion here is whether you value the height of one year or consistency over a period of time. ISU has been better than TCU more often than not during CMC's tenure, TCU has had the best team of those same years.

Not sold on up coming season(especially)oline again

The timeframe I referenced, since CMC: Overall ISU 53 wins, TCU 58 wins Head to Head ISU leads 5-3 Conference Championship games: ISU 0-1, TCU 0-2 ISU had a great season and won the Fiesta Bowl TCU had a great season and won the Fiesta Bowl, then lost in the National Championship game. Pretty...

Help! I'm Fat - *** Official Exercise and Weight Thread ***

Ive found the best one for me is simply balsamic vinegar and some olive oil mixed together. I usually throw in a few walnuts and some feta cheese with that combo and I’ve come to really enjoy it.

Help! I'm Fat - *** Official Exercise and Weight Thread ***

My personal recent history with the impact of proper nutrition: About 2 years ago, I had my blood results at my yearly check and my liver enzymes were slightly elevated but not overly concerning. Last year I got the results and they were even higher, so I discussed with my Dr. and she had me...

    Acreage tips from the Fanatics

We had a new well put in for one of our shops about 5 years ago. We received 4 estimates from the same company depending on which aquifer they had to drill to in order to get consistent water. For the drilling and complete well set up, our estimates ranged from $9k for a 160 foot well to $24k...

    New water heater...

Get a couple quotes from local plumbers. Gas plumbing isn't overly complicated, but a typical water heater install is probably about the worst place to learn on. Enclosed space with a pilot light on the bottom floor of the house is a recipe for disaster in the case of a leak.

    New water heater...

$10k is an “I don’t need the work but for the right price ill do it” quote. We see that in my industry a lot. You should be half of that or less for that job. Water heaters are also a fairly easy DIY job if you are comfortable with the gas plumbing or electrical work.

Nostalgia for the 90's and 00's

I remember describing in great detail to my Aunt how I had perfected the Tesla Coil layout for ultimate base defense. She was remarkably polite, especially considering we were on a family tour of Gettysburg.

Nostalgia for the 90's and 00's

My wife and I talk about this one a lot, but stopping by someone's house just to see if they were home and/or people stopping by your place for the same reason. Almost unheard of any more with everyone having a cell phone. Red Alert and Sim City 2000 hit hard too. A lot of hours invested into...

Nostalgia for the 90's and 00's

Pizza Hut is a big one for me. That was THE place to talk mom and dad into on a weekend night. When I was about 10 a buddy and I would con our moms into buying us The Big New Yorker to split and thought it was the best food on the planet. I spent most of my adult life wishing they would bring...

    Best Campustown Bars by Decade

2007-2011 Paddy's was by far my most frequent. Had a buddy that worked at Element so we would go there for cheap drinks to get the night started. Es Tas on Tuesdays West Towne for something different Outlaws at the end of mug night to see if any ladies wanted to "ride the bull". (They never did)
