Could Iowa State go bowling at 5-7?

There are 84 bowl bids, so the easiest way to do the math I think is to see whether 83 or more teams will get to 6 wins, Rice excluded. If yes, then Iowa State is not going to have a spot; if no and the number is 82 or fewer, Iowa State will get a bid if we end up at 5-7. (I am assuming Cincinnati wins.) If you just exclude Rice, then it counts them as ahead of ISU whether or not they win next week, which is true.

Will be interesting to do the math on this tomorrow once all the games are done.

82 bids. 41 bowls this year, not including the championship.

Word is ESPN won't create a bowl game out of the blue like they did last year.

Thanks to everyone for humoring this thread. Seeing as a 4-8 (1-8) record is very likely in our future, I guess we’ll never know how the bowl would’ve turned out.

Up to 73 eligible teams, with some of the west coast games left.

74 in, for 82 spots. 18 on the bubble.

Next week's games:
Ball State (5-6) at Miami Ohio (5-6)
Miami (5-6)
vs. Pittsburgh (7-4)
Georgia Tech (5-6) at Georgia (11-0)
Michigan State (5-6) at Penn State (9-2)
Rice (5-6) at North Texas (6-5)
UAB (5-6) at Louisiana Tech (3-8)
Florida Atlantic (5-6) vs Western Kentucky (7-5)
UTEP (5-6) at UTSA (9-2)
Missouri (5-6) vs. Arkansas (6-5)
Vanderbilt (5-6) vs. Tennessee (9-2)
Auburn (5-6) at Alabama (9-2)
Southern Miss (5-6) at UL-Monroe (4-7)
Georgia Southern (5-6) vs. Appalachian State (6-5)
UL-Lafayette (5-6) at Texas State (4-7)

Buffalo (5-5) vs. Kent State (4-7)
Buffalo had 1 game PPD (weather); would need a waiver at 5-6

New Mexico State (4-6) at Liberty (8-3)
NMSU had 1 game PPD due to death of opposing player (San Jose); would need a waiver at 5-6

Army (4-6) at UMass (1-10); Dec. 10 vs. Navy (4-7)
Army has 2 games remaining

Bad loss for UNLV against Hawaii. UNLV 4 wins coming into today and had 2 pretty easy opponents left in Hawaii & Nevada and they blew it.

Unless ISU does the unthinkble and wins @ TCU!
Perhaps, we can party like it was 1981, 1992, 2002, 2011, 2017!

So basically drop Ball State-Miami and Rice-UNT from this list, and ISU is bowling if they beat TCU and 5 or fewer of the other bolded teams win.

Not holding my breath on either component here
