"A little old lady got mutilated late last night" - Werewolves of London. Just some of the cleverest lyrics of all time, the alliteration and assonance are amazing.

“People say I'm a one-hit wonder,
But what happens when I have two?
I washed your dishes,
but I **** in your bathroom.” - Every Time The Sun Comes Up, Sharon Van Etten. 1:05-ish

"I, I can remember
Standing by the wall
And the guns shot above our heads.
And we kissed as though nothing could fall
And the shame
Was on the other side." - Heroes, David Bowie. 3:59

So many great lyrics in that song.

It's still only my second favorite Sturgill some, lyrically though. This one takes the cake:
Well, I've been spending all my money on weed n' pills
Tryin' to write a song that'll pay the bills
But it ain't came yet, so I guess I'll have to rob a bank

Oh, I've been spendin' all my nights on the internet
Looking for a clue but ain't found one yet

First off, you have "Suckin' on a chili dog, outside the Tastee Freeze" That ought to be enough...

But no, then it gets all philosophical: "Oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone."

Then "Hold on to 16 as long as you can, changes comin' round real soon make us women and men."

Just simple enough to be a great pop hit but also just enough melancholy to hit the mark.

I tried, I really did, but there's no way to pick out favorite lyrics in this one. The way it goes fast but the lyrics fit and tell the story are amazing.

Maybe (MAYBE) the way he changes "Venus DeMilo" to "Marlo Venus"... was a beautiful lass, she had the world in the palm of her hand." at about the 1:36 mark - if you stuck a gun to my head.

Numerous lyrical highlights on "Paul's Boutique," but this is among my favorites, although it's more straightforward than a lot of examples I could use. (I might get to some of those eventually).

“Because it's all high-spirit / you know you got to hear it / Don't touch the mic, baby, don't come near it.” (1:08)

I'm having a hard time thinking of "favorite" rhymes. So many running through my head.

I decided to submit some entries of favorite rhymes from some of my favorite bands/groups.

First off, 311. So many good rhymes but here's one of my favorites:

NSFW Lyrics and Title. My bad, sue me

"Any different people can apply to drop the funk
It's not a country club review board steady talkin junk
Many people would have it others go put and grab it
Some trip over toots and say **** it I'm sunk
I put it in a limerick and kick the slick nick verbs
I am the one who scores the herb
When we're on the road P-Nut rolls it up
Throw me a joint on stage what's up"

There was that one song where Nikki Minaj talked about King Kong's ding-dong...

I always thought this song is such a good allegory for life in general, especially this line. It's deep, man.

"every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep"

A Tribe Called Quest - Check the Rhime

RIP Phife Dawg

Phife:
"Now here's a funky introduction of how nice I am.
Tell your mother, tell your father, send a telegram.
I'm like an energizer 'cause, you see, I last long.
My crew is never ever wack because we stand strong."

Great song. Here's my favorite lyrics from it:

"Well, the name of the game is hurry up and wait,"
"But that ain't putting no food on my plate,"
"Or gas in my car, and I drive a Bronco,"
"So Lord, if I could just get me a record deal,"
"I might not have to worry about my next meal,"
"But I'll still be trying to figure out what the hell rhymes with Bronco."

When it comes to favorite rhymes, mine is another Isbell song:

When you said we had the same three wishes
I hope that you weren't being facetious

I could post many Dylan songs but this imagery is one of my favorites, 1st verse:
'And Louise holds her hands full of rain tempting you to defy it'

And just fun to listen to all over, JUST found this live version from when VH1 was cool.

Quite an attention getter:
'Well I went home with the waitress, the way I always do'

Really hard to pick my favorite Beastie Boys rhyme. Really damn hard.

One that instantly came to mind was the following from "So Whatcha Want"

Mike D:
"Y'all suckers write me checks and then they bounce
So I reach into my pocket for the fresh amount
See, I'm the long-leaner, Vincent the Cleaner
I'm the illest mother****er from here to Gardena"

Ok, I've decided. I'm doing my favorite rhyme from each Beastie.

RIP MCA

MCA:
"Timing like a clock when I rock the hip hop
The top notch is my stock on the soap box
I've got more rhymes than I've got gray hairs
And that's a lot because I've got my share"

Ad-Rock:
"I'm the A.D.R.O.C.K.
In the place with the bass I'm going all the way
I can't stop y'all, tick tock, y'all
And if you think that you're slick, you'll catch a brick y'all
'Cause I'm a turn it in and I'm a turn it out
But now I got to pass the mic to Yauch"
