I genuinely question the self awareness of those individuals who say it has never happened to them.

We’ve tailgated on Melrose Ave in IC the last couple of games. We’d just watch the college kids walk up and down the street. They would look at us and say “F-you” to us. We’d wave back at them and say “Jesus still loves you!” They would look back at with this deer in headlights look totally caught off guard and keep walking. A few stopped and started to laugh saying that was pretty good. They came over and had a beer with us and said that we were pretty cool for parents.

One of those votes is from SplitIdentity, so we can throw that one out. And SCNY said he didn't grow up in Iowa so that makes his experience a bit more unique.

Frog? is a brand new poster, so there's a decent chance he's a troll.

That leaves three votes out of 133. Barely 2 percent?

I lived in Iowa City / Coralville for seven years. The worst ones were not a face-to-face interactions. Someone tried to rip off my front ISU license plate, and later someone keyed my car.
I’m not intent on getting ISU plates for just that reason.

I went with the second option, as the douchey verbal stuff goes in one ear and out the other. I remember being hit in the head by a thrown rock quite vividly though. Pretty cowardly for a group of grown men to throw a rock at a lone high school kid walking down the street.

Remember the buddy system people! Don't go anywhere by yourself in Iowa City.

I'm an umpire so I ignore verbal stuff pretty well too. Maybe I should wear my gear to the game to protect from beer cans and rocks?

I don't go to Iowa City for any reason, and I don't put any Iowa State stuff on my car for that very reason.
I’m not intent on getting ISU plates for just that reason.
Screw that, I have ISU plates to show those losers there are more of us in in the state than they think.. way more of us. In the 8 years I’ve lived in Eastern Iowa, I have seen more and more ISU plates. Iowa edges us out in Eastern Iowa but it’s not as much as you would think. In central Iowa and Des Moines you definitely see more ISU plates.

I think this is my favorite story in this thread so far. Ironically enough, I also did this with one of the more obnoxious Hawk fans I went to school with. We were usually pretty good about paying up until his senior year, which was the 23-3 game. He did not pay up that year. I honestly had no means with which to make him pay either, considering I was so outnumbered and his Hawk buddies all had his back. The SOB still owes me $5 to this day

Had an awful neighbor Pantherhawk until his wife finally got sick of him embarrassing her and the kids and divorced him. Yelled obscenities at my kids any time they wore Cyclone anything, then when they got older wanted them to babysit his kids. Schoolteacher wife was always in trouble at work because he would be cursing at kids all over town any time he saw an Iowa State clothing item.

At games in Ames, have had a high pitched woo screamer behind me until she vomited and they carried her out. I think it was last time Hawk woman behind us squatting in an area that isn’t really a seat booed the military hero for the game AND the BlankPark kid captain. That wasn’t really harassing me, just vile.

One year was keeping an eye on the great niece when Hawk didn’t bother waiting in kybo line and whipped it out right in front of her to pee.

Took one of kids to early morning math contest on a Saturday in Iowa City. He was wearing a red jacket with our middle school logo and two drunks in pedo mall mistook it for an ISU jacket and starting cursing and calling us names.

I feel bad for those of you who have had full beer cans thrown at you. That's just ******* stupid all the way around. I lived in Iowa City for 6 years getting my undergraduate and graduate degrees and never saw a beer can thrown. I've obviously heard plenty of profanity and taunting and stupid insults but haven't seen anyone dumb enough to throw a full beer.

The worst I've personally witnessed was the last time you guys won in Iowa City and my wife and I were walking back to our car and an obviously drunk Iowa fan shoved his way between two Cyclone fans walking back to their car. When I say shoved I mean he lowered his shoulders and made contact with both guys. One of the Cyclone fans said something like "real mature" and the Iowa fan got in their face and appeared ready to fight. Fortunately a police officer was nearby and told him to walk away.

I always want Iowa to beat you guys in everything but I just don't get the visceral hatred plenty of people seem to have. If Iowa loses it sucks for a day and then I'm over it. I have a number of close Iowa State friends and we usually watch the game together and there's no drama whatsoever. It would be nice if people could just be decent to each other.

Plates are fine. I don't do decals/bumper stickers of any kind. I just kinda feel like they devalue your vehicle

Assuming this just means IRL. Only had a couple bad ones. Most just give lighthearted teasing and then are cool about it and ask about the team if they don't watch us mutch

About a decade ago my wife and I were in Iowa City for the Cy-Hawk game, and we were watching the game at a sports bar. My in-laws (who are actually nice Hawkeye fans) were sitting with us. We had some guy come up to our table and splash us with a full pint glass of beer. It got everywhere, but mostly on my wife. Someone working there must have seen it, because they kicked him out right away. All we had done to deserve this was clap when ISU would make a good play. It’s not like we were hooting and hollering, and there was other Cyclones in the bar, so I’m not sure why he picked us.

Never just awful stuff like getting assaulted but just the constant belligerence and 'in your face'-ness about teams that were rarely as good as they thought they were.

Otherwise was at times told to leave parties if I had an ISU shirt on and things like that.

Had some buddies that I'd watch the CyHawk football game with and there was lots of back and forth but overall it was a blast.

Going to Iowa City for the CyHawk game is the worst. I probably will never go to another there again after the few that I have. Never fails that some obnoxious Hawk fan throws something at you or gets in your face to or from the stadium even if you just keep your eyes forward and don't say a word to anyone.
