A new panel designed to handle the most complex rules in collegiate sports has officially agreed to hear the University of Kansas' case surrounding serious pay-for-play allegations in the men's basketball program, the sports' governing body announced Wednesday.

Over a month after KU's case was officially referred to the Independent Accountability Resolution Process, a five-person panel finally accepted the request to have the case heard outside the processes of the NCAA, the governing body for collegiate sports.

I just want this resolved to see if the NCAA has changed after Condi Rice's commission or remains a governance shadow that's incapable of policing itself. This independent panel hearing the Ku case is a direct fallout from Rice's work. Give people who understand the law and are not associated with the parties power to hear the cases and levy punishments.

Is this panel made up of KU boosters and members of the KU band? Or is it just a bunch of Adidas reps?

"KU is now the third program to have its violations adjudicated through the IARP process, joining men's basketball programs at the University of Memphis and North Carolina State University. Neither of those cases have been ruled on, so there remains no precedent for how tough or lenient the IARP may be in these cases."

Not betting even loose pocket change pesos that they will be tough. Maybe they hammer NC State so they can let Memphis and Kansas walk. Leaning towards this whole thing being a sham till shown to be otherwise. We'll probably find out some time next year.

Why can't these investigations be like State Auditor, Rob Sand performs? In his case it seems like he's always looking at financial transactions of city clerks. When his findings make the news it's because the clerk has misspent money and either resigned or was fired.

It seems like the process the NCAA uses should be the same as a Ron Sand audit. The sh*t would hit the fan with the KU b-ball audit.

Translation: "If they do what I want them to do then they are an amazing display of knowledge. If they don't then they are just another useless ncaa tool."

Independent Resolution Panel
The Independent Resolution Panel reviews the allegations issued by the Complex Case Unit and the school’s response to those allegations. It then conducts a hearing, decides whether violations occurred and prescribes penalties. The panel consists of 15 members with legal, higher education and/or sports backgrounds. Once a case is referred to the IARP, a hearing panel consisting of five Independent Resolution Panel members is generated.

Decisions issued by the Independent Resolution Panel are final and are not subject to appeal or further review.

Members: 15 members with legal, higher education and/or sports backgrounds who are not affiliated with NCAA member schools or conferences. Each case will be handled by a panel of five of the 15 members. • Reviews allegations from the Complex Case Unit and the school’s response to those allegations. • Oversees the case hearing and decides penalties. • If appropriate, expands upon allegations presented by the Complex Case Unit.
