Welcome to "Now Playing", a discussion of films, actors, directors, and all things cinema.

A tip of the cap to @cyclones500, who encouraged me to re-visit this thread. His idea will also kick off our second life.

Our topic is a certain year that contained more than one film that either you very much enjoyed, or had substantial success either critically, or at the box office.

An example: The year 1972 saw the release of The Godfather, Deliverance, Cabaret, The Last Picture Show, and The Poseidon Adventure, among others.

What was your favorite year?

1994 is hard to beat — although a few I don’t hold as highly as I once did (or haven’t watched in years).
The Shawshank Redemption
Hoop Dreams
Forrest Gump
Pulp Fiction
Quiz Show
Blue Chips
Clerks
Reality Bites

Possible runner-up: 1982
E.T.
Gandhi
Poltergeist
Diner
Tootsie
48 Hours
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Rocky III
Tron (saw only once, but loved it at the time)

Easily 1939

Gone with the Wind
Stagecoach
It's a Wonderful Life
Wizard of oz
Young Mr Lincoln
Mr Smith goes to Washington
Wuthering Heights
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hound of the Baskervilles
Stanley and Livingston
Dodge City

and many many more. Inflation adjusted GWTW is still the highest highest grossing film of all time.

At first glance I thought this thread might be about the movie: My Favorite Year (1982), https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084370/ but, alas, not. I admit the title's bad. Doesn't really say anything about the movie, and hard to remember. I was rolling in laughter at the end.

That was really my tie-in to the whole thing, and I was hoping someone would get the reference. Thanks!
