Not many have posted in awhile... figured I’d get a photo in.

what’s everyone’s favorite genre to shoot?

My money seems to be made on the portrait side, but my passion and hobby side says landscape. I think I may get more into Astro, enjoy the peaceful darkness, unless your fingers are numb, that’s no fun.

It's been too cold to go out at night to shoot. I have a few ideas and some spots I want to try to photograph at night. I would kill to take a photo like that one you just posted

Peter Read Miller has had a youtube channel and occasionally does a video critiquing viewer photos and I sent in a basketball sequence of Rasir Bolton and it got reviewed. If this link works it starts just before he reviews mine.

New Spring arrivals always stimulate my camera itch.

Been slim pickings here in the Twin Cities. Done a bunch of walkabouts and haven't seen hardly any warblers. :( Seems to be the year of the wood duck, they are everywhere. And last month, great horned owlets. This one stretching to show it's MUCH taller than it's sibling.

Also demonstarting the first rule of trying to shoot owls, there is almost always a branch or twig in the way.

Confessions. Have totally screwed up some shoots this spring. Got a new Nikon 7500 and mostly default to shutter priority to make sure I am not too slow for 400mm. Have accidentally thumbed the speed to like 1/2000 (thumb sorta rests right there when I am walking with the camera/lens slung from an over the shoulder strap) and not noticed. Ooops. Embarrassing.

Paying more attention now to the viewfinder displays and where my damn thumb is resting.

Most of my photos are of my family and other people for whom I do photography, but I did a COVID quarantine gallery. I had put it on social media, and the United Way of SC used it for their COVID initiative video, and Ames Historical Society is going to add it to the city museum. Here are a very few photos from it:

Baseball at Cap Timm field 35 years ago. Cap Timm would pull his car up close to fence past first base and watch from his car.

Love this thread and it just piques my interest.

I'm enamored with the time-lapse weather shots - frontal systems, lightening, etc. Can that be (reasonably) done with a digital SLR?

I live near TV and radio towers. When there is a good thunderstorm you can watch the lightning strike them over and over.
Next time I should get the camera out and see if I can capture a strike or two. That's the great thing about digital, instant feedback for making adjustments and you can just delete all the crappy images without wasting film.

First image is an old seaquarium off the coast of the Bahamas. Damaged by a hurricane in the 90's and put out of commission.

Second photo is a random street corner in Downtown Nassau. Thought the tree, flower petals, building colors, and old brick sidewalks would be a cool photo. This one is untouched, but I have a couple of versions where I've messed with the saturation and filtering.

Both of these were taken last year with just an iPhone 6s camera.

Edit: I should clarify that an iPhone camera is all I have currently (though I've upgraded to the 11 now). I eventually want to work towards getting a DSLR but want to have to hobby established before I go and drop some dough.

Ah, I don't think I've really ever posted any travel photos. I have just a few Italy ones - this may take a couple of posts due to image size.

This one - the Colosseum. I love a good solar flare.

Took this yesterday morning with my Galaxy9 in WDM, looking NE. The worst of the morning storm had already come through. Wish I could have gotten a less obstructed pic.

I've been going through some older stuff and thought I would post a couple here.

Here is Mario Andretti being strapped into his car during practice for the 1985 Indianapolis 500.

Here are the 1982 Iowa State Football captains entering the stadium. John Arnaud, Ronnie Osborne, Karl Nelson, James Ransom and George Jessen. ISU00006TeamCaptains1982.jpg

Went walkabout in the woods of Teddy Wirth Park the other day. Noticed this morning that my Nikon and telephoto are covered with fine pollen.
