Hey guys ... quick question for you in which I'm seeking some feedback.

I've been meeting with our developer about refreshing the site and upgrading our forum here over the next few months.

One of the options that he has brought to me is the "gamification" of our forum. Basically, there is a lot of really cool new technology out there that could bring more games, leagues, and eSports right here to our community through the forum software and also your own gaming systems.

This is out of my line of expertise so I thought I would throw it out to our forum users to gauge an appetite for it.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

DOTA 2. However, I'm probably the only one on CF that knows what this is :(. There is currently and ISU club team (on par with ISU club hockey & baseball) see the WHOTV link. Has CF ever thought about sponsoring a e sports club team?

There's a lot of money in E sports now (surpassing sports like tennis, golf, etc). For example, in 2019 the prize money for one DOTA 2 tournament was over 30 million dollars.

There's an ISU gaming group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/GRISU/

There's now a Rocket League intramural at ISU: https://www.iastate.edu/stories/2019/05/esports

It would be pretty epic to hear of a CF run E-Sports tournament sponsored by (insert sponsor here) where the winner or top-3 have a chance to win various prizes.

Could be something like a free community and tournaments (no idea of the legalities on a buy-in, but you could collect an extra revenue stream or maybe you run some for free and juice it up for a charity tournament where CF staff, previous athletes, or folks from the AD play with a buy-in every once or twice a year).

Could go a lot of different ways with games, 2k, Madden, Fortnite, Warzone, F1 PGA, etc.

I mean, it'd be epic if even the pick-em games, or NFL/NCAAF survivor had a winning prize.

I guess I'd be curious to hear more on what the above would entail from a forum standpoint and to what direction CF is interested in going forward with from a community perspective, including on standalone platforms (like consoles separate from the forums).

one thing that would be nice to bring back is seeing the amount of posts in a thread by an individual and the contents of those posts. The old software had it and this would be a nice feature for the whole site, not just gaming.

I like it. I know esports are huge and I'd be interested in hearing more about the technology we could use here on CF.

Completely unrelated to gaming (well maybe not if we want to show standings) but not being able to embed a table in a post is a real bummer.

ISU was in the process of building an E-Gaming lounge in Beyer (at least this was true pre-COVID), not sure what the status currently is.

Edit: Found the Inside Iowa State article about this

Construction beginning soon will turn two Beyer Hall squash courts into an esports room for gamers. The renovation should be completed by fall 2020 and provides more than just a place for gamers to come and play.

"It gives them a space -- from a socialization perspective, development perspective -- to get them out of their res hall where they may be sitting by themselves," Giles said. "It will allow for an egaming team that meets and is very competitive, to just a couple of friends who want to engage in a social environment."

The new room also will have academic uses. Recreation services plans to partner with units to conduct gaming research, Giles said.

I'd be interested in CF esports leagues. I mostly just started playing NBA2K though. Kind of a novice.

There's a big push from Rec Services to respond to demand for EGaming at ISU. I would recommend you reach out to them as they had to learn about EGaming quickly too. I responded to a later post, but there are plans to build some EGaming suites in Beyer with the goal of opening them in the fall (this may have been delayed). I believe the eventual intent is to field an "official" ISU team in the near future.

Love this idea.

Make a twitch channel and play NCAA Football 14 with the updated rosters. Either make a league or play dynasty mode similar to what "Pardon My Take" is doing. I'd be glued.

I finally upgraded from a PS3 to Xbox (at my oldest kids request) and haaaaate the new gameplay in NBA2K20. I just can’t get into it. I still find myself going back to 2K16/17 on the PS3. Those were the only games I played. I just realized I have a copy of NCAA football 14 that I’ve never played, so I might have to give that a try.

I do enjoy Forza 4 and play that quite a bit now. There are endless races and cars on that game. You never run out of **** to do.

Well considering the gaming forum is hidden here and you need mods to manually give you access to it, I wouldn't think the site would support it.

I feel like this is something we should re-address. Let me look into it. I don't even remember how we came to that decision all of those years ago.

CF Jackbox League sounds nice so I can own all of you in rap battles.

Really though, I might consider it after seeing how my financials are whenever this could/would start.
