It's crazy how many friends I had growing up that were Dolphin fans in small town Iowa.

I can only assume it's because our dads were all middle/high schoolers in 1972 and became fans of those Dolphin teams.

I know he was 90 but to me it's still a shock. He was among those that although I know it's not possible would live forever. But he will live forever in the hearts of Dolphins fans and all NFL fans. RIP

Same here. However I always had a theory it had to do with Starter Jackets. The Dolphins jacket just looked bad ass.

Same goes for the Hornets in the NBA, everyone had a Hornets Starter jacket, including this guy.

I think it's because Teal was a hot fashion color of the time. Dolphins, Hornets, San Jose Sharks, Florida Marlins. People in the late 80s/early 90s loved their teal.

Shula (and Dean Smith, too) were not only titans of their respective sports, but dedicated winners who managed to command total respect from their players while also receiving their unwavering loyalty and - yeah, I'm gonna say it - love. As a coach, that's not easy.

Shula gave my Bears their only loss in the Super Bowl season. Beating the best team in history. Proof of his greatness. RIP.

It passed on to their kids. Lots of Marino jerseys. We also had the poor Viking fans in NE Iowa. They were being chased out by Bill Walsh's 49ers though.

Maybe the greatest coach in Colts history too.

Colts top coach---Weeb Ewbank----Coach when the Colts won the 23-17 overtime championship game in 1958 that put the NFL on the map. Repeated in 1959. And, coach of the Jets when they beat Don Shula's Colts in 1969 (the famous Joe Namath Super Bowl). Don Shula's longevity was unmatched for victories, but he lost more championship games than he won, going back to the absolute clobbering his Colts took from the Browns in 1964 (Browns 27--Colts 0). He will be missed but his record in playoff and championship games does not equal Vince Lombardi, Bill Bellichick,, Bill Walsh, or Paul Brown (who mentored him as a player). His Colts also lost a playoff game to the Packers in 1965.
