Just think how bad it is..

those guys actually said to themselves.. "I'd rather go back to a low mid major team than go play at P5 Iowa State!"

:jimlad:

Okay, everyone needs to step back, it is unfortunate that Turner isn't a cyclone. I do appreciate his choice to be a legend at BG and finish what he started rather than going to a school he has never stepped on the ground off with promise of getting shots. BG is likely the best team in their conference now and has a good chance at the NCAA.

This **** is really depressing yall, but at the same time I'm not sure how much better a GT is gonna make us for next year.

I agree, but it’s hard to believe we can’t get one since he could probably play as many minutes as he wants.

Updated traditional transfer list from 247. 2 currently listed with ISU interest. Not sure if it is just a list but currently Carton is the 1st listed DeJulius 4th.
https://247sports.com/college/baske...uhammad-David-DeJulius-146033865/#146033865_1

Name: DJ Carton
Position: Point Guard
Years Remaining: Three
Schools Interested: Wisconsin, Marquette, Iowa State, Nebraska, Creighton, Minnesota, Memphis, Ole Miss, Drake and others
Since announcing his transfer, Carton has kept a pretty low profile, but the former Ohio State guard remains one of the most heavily pursued prospects in the portal. A point guard with excellent athleticism, good size, and some track record for success at the high-major level, that makes Carton a unique case.
Now Carton did miss the final part of the season with a mental health situation, and that issue obviously remains monitoring. As a freshman he put up 10.4 points and 3.0 assists per game during his abbreviated season with the Buckeyes.

Name: David DeJulius
Position: Combo Guard
Years Remaining: Two
Schools Interested: Maryland, Missouri, Cincinnati, Marquette, Iowa State
A combo guard who was a big scorer coming out of high school, DeJulius surprised some by exiting the Michigan program, given that he was so excited to commit there coming out of high school.
As a sophomore, DeJulius averaged 7.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 36 percent from beyond the three-point line. He isn’t the biggest guard and he doesn't have great feel for passing, so he has to find the right system, and he is best when he can push the pace with the dribble.

Goodman just posted an article on Grad Transfers moving up a level and how it is rare that the player produces at the same level as at their Mid-major. A good reason missing on the early GT this spring maybe wouldn't have automatically saved ISU next season. It also helps explain that Turner may have made right choice to just go back to BG.

"Of the 50 players who transferred up a level to a high-major program a year ago and took the court this past season, just two averaged more than a dozen points per game, and only three put up more than an average of 10 shots per game.

“Guys have to understand it’s basically starting over,” said Jeantal Cylla, who went from averaging 13.7 points in 2018-19 at UNC Wilmington to scoring a grand total of 29 points in 28 games this past season at Arkansas.
“The stats mean nothing once you leave there. You have to prove yourself all over again. It’s a risk,” he added."

It might not mean much but I really like that L'ville isn't listed with Carton.

For kids who never visited Iowa State, not sure how you can convince them to commit.
Lots of stereotypes associated with be a school in the middle of Iowa. Carton would be one that probably has some familiarity.

Its like buying a house during this time with only a video tour of the home.
It could happen, but 99% of the people probably not going to pull the trigger.

ISU needs visits to happen. Now if there is instant eligibility granted, that might open opportunities for some kids who ISU previously recruited and lost out on.

I don't see it as a huge hurdle. There's a giant commitment difference between a house, and going to college for 1 or 2 years. There's far more importance on coach and player cohesion, and facilities, than scenery and campus life.

The guys Iowa St should be targeting are the ones that are making a basketball decision to either improve their personal stock, or looking to a better team and play on a bigger stage.

I understand you thought and it is the main reason the player is looking for a new school. I trust the staff is selling the bigger role and pro stock and they are getting in the final 4 of many of the top available.
The issue is the other 4 schools are offering the same that ISU can offer at that point and that is where not selling a player from the West or East coast who may never been to Iowa they should move to Ames for year w/o visiting. The players we missed out on have essentially stayed close to home to play for schools they are familiar with and likely visited.

If you think 18-22 yr old kids don't care about a campus or what there is to do around the city/town you are kidding yourself. They are going to care about the college experience also. Why do you think on recruiting trips they have host players take them out on the town for a night?

I think a bigger part is meeting your potential teammates. It would be hard to commit to a program not having a chance to meet the guys you'll be playing with.

Cinci just got a big man commitment leaving them at one scholarship open, though they have a number of young guards not sure how it would move the needle for DD if anyone was thinking that.

@GoodmanHoops Colgate graduate transfer Rapolas Ivanauskas told @Stadium he is headed to Cincinnati.
