I have been scanning all of my father's slides and came across a bunch of shots from homecoming while he was at ISU (early 50's). Thought I'd share here so you all could enjoy them.

That's cool. 1/2 my family grew up in Ames in the 50s so I grew up hearing their stories and seeing pictures from that time frame. More for Ames as the town than ISU, but ISU obviously makes the cut.

What are you using for a scanner? I've got a bunch to do also.

THanks for sharing! Always love seeing "candid" shots from the past vs professional photos...and color is great. So many old shots are BW and color makes it seem so much more real.

The warm glow of nostalgia factor on those is set at 500%.

And I was born in 1987 -- and my father in 1953.

I'm using an Epson Perfection V500 Photo. Am actually scanning these as tif files at 3000dpi. I had to do some compression and convert to jpg to get on here so these don't look near as good as the scans!

I'll try to add a few more as I come across them. My dad was a student in Vet Med at the time and mom worked at the Ames Lab on campus when they were still working with nuclear materials. They lived in what they describe as a converted chicken coop in Pammel Court.

Cool photos.

It's neat to see the people in the crowds all dressed up for a parade / football game. Today, society wears pajama pants and t shirts.

Thanks much. That's very good scan settings to say the least. I was looking at the Epson Perfection V600 Photo which would be basically the same as what you are using.

Your folks have a real great ISU background!

Pammel Court.. The curved buildings to the left were used up until the 80s (I think) as married student housing. Each one was two units.

Great photo to use when people complain our standards of living have not improved since the 1950s or the 1960s -- people used to pack themselves into sardine cans like that. Our modern housing stock is so much more spacious than that.

Student 'apartments' compared to even 20 years ago relatively look like something out of one of those TV series that takes place in NYC.
