Just got back to hotel from game. Horrible loss. Up 9 and choke it. Wtf.

Dunk for a 1 point lead and freshman Grill has to eventually try and stop Likekele one on one.

Horrible coaching. Got to double Likekele and make him pass for OSU jump shot.

I am now on fire Prohm wagon. What an idiot.

OK, I will disagree on choking. They basically got it taken away by the refs. I don't think they were biased or that there was some conspiracy (and either team would get destroyed by KU so it wouldn't really matter). But, there were a ton of calls that went against us late. Nixon took a charge that was called block. Nixon got absolutely trucked while trying for an offensive rebound. And on that last layup, Jackson got escorted out of bounds when he could have tried to stop Likely with Grill. We did plenty to hurt ourselves, but any of those obvious calls go the other way and ISU wins.

I'll fault Prohm for many things including the roster construction, but guys played hard tonight despite playing without their best two players. I'm not going to blame him for this loss.

Sucks that we lost, but we had glimpses of what several of these guys can do. Looking forward to seeing how much Solo, Grill, TJack, Bolton and the IV can improve. Go get a transfer PG that can shoot, and hopefully the frosh can really contribute. Add in a new defensive assistant and things are looking up.
Building chemistry is not a science, but I think it needs to happen in the first two months. It would help this program to add a Christmas season tournament. It seems every year, they play an empty schedule between EIU and the conference opener. While other teams are developing depth during the holidays, while this team is treads water.

ISU has played in a tournament the last 2 years. Two years ago we were in Hawaii, this past year in the Atlantis tournament over Thanksgiving.

This team was torn apart by players leaving early for the draft, and young players not ready to play at a high level. ISU will never be a Duke or KU that can lose underclassman to the draft and reload, as much as I wish we were.

We have a decent class coming in this next year, we return a lot of minutes from this past year, its up to Prohm to get them to play together and play hard. If not, we look for a new coach at the end of the year.

Can't blame Prohm for that endgame sequence, that was 1000000% horrible player awareness. They should know and do their jobs in that scenario. Especially Lewis, who literally stopped playing. That's pathetic.

They really need to add some size and experience to the roster. I would start with a real PG...Bolton and Jackson are not it. Bolton needs to be off the ball attacking and Jackson does not have the handle to play point...he needs to come off the bench. Then they need a scoring wing. A 3 and D guy who can defend and hit corner shots. If there's more attrition, fill accordingly, but I don't think that Prohm can afford to bring in a sit out guy at this point. Better be scouting the JUCO and grad transfer markets hard.

I really wanted Terrance to be the hero with that dunk tonight. Would have been awesome. But damn kid...the game wasn't over yet.

I just got back to my house after the game and had about 4 big Boulevard Space Campers at Sprint Center so I am a little faded,

I am not faded enough to post something this stupid. Great job.

Tell us about the Space Campers.

Have no complaints with the game last night because they played their butts off and almost won the game when it shouldn't have even been close based on what ISU rolled out there.

We are at the participation trophy phase of the season. I get it, we would have gotten killed by KU today so the game last night didn’t really matter. But would have been nice for the players to win one.

This. Pre-game, rolling in with no Haliburton, no Bolton, and a hobbled Nixon and Solo, this game shouldn't have been competitive. 30 minutes in, and you could almost contest that ISU had no business losing...all in all a good game. The end result wasn't there, but this team fought, and with a little cleaner officiating down the final stretch, probably would have won. Only to be de-pantsed by KU this afternoon, much like OSU will be.

I see T-Lew getting a lot of hate on here, and while I agree it was a bonehead move of him to flex and celebrate following the dunk, the replay tells me he wasn't even the last guy up the floor getting back on defense. T-Lew played arguably his best game defensively last night. He was tough and hung in there. I'm not sure if he'll be back in Ames next season, but I suppose I could take or leave him at this point, whereas I had written him off completely a couple weeks ago.

Regarding Lewis, as I didn't see it brought up in here at all, but did anyone else see him get slammed to the ground by Cam McGriff while going up for a rebound that he had legal position for? No call. And then, when Lewis was rolling around on the ground with a possible concussion, the refs allowed play to continue on. Zero regard for player safety, nevermind the obvious foul on McGriff. The refs were terrible last night.

To me the game was lost from about the 7 to 4 minute mark in the second half. We had some momentum, and then had some of the worst offensive sets imaginable. Off the top of my head, in that span we had:

A) Nixon (who played well otherwise!) dribbling too much and dribbling it off his foot.
B) Nixon throwing it away on an attempted pass to the wing.
C) Mike Jacobson travel.
D) Conditt trying to take someone off the dribble from 20 feet out and dribbling it off his foot.

With a lead late that's where you have to get your guys into good sets and at least get a shot up. We didn't do that.

So NCAA will just cancel the remainder of conference tourneys and March Madness, and this season just disappears from the record books, right? Cool, glad we're in agreement.

NBA will also proactively cancel the 2020 draft and Tyrese is staying put.

Helluva fight last night from our guys. It was a fun one with an all-too-familiar and horrific-yet-predictable ending. Youth/Inexperience and head-scratching player rotations were prevalent once again.

Just a few extra thoughts...
  • It's a game changer and super fun to watch when Conditt is mentally locked in and playing freely. He was flying in for rebounds as if he's Toothpickin' Hogue!
  • After 36 years on Earth I clearly still don't understand what offensive charging and illegal contact is supposed to be.
  • Not a game changer in the least, but what the heck suddenly gets T-Lew 25 mins last night and Griffin never takes his warmups off? Maybe Prohm needs to get checked for early-onset? The distribution of minutes nonsense is same thing, different player every single game, so it's hard to believe it's player-specific. Perhaps we get back to a trusted 7-man rotation and recruit with that in mind. Prohm's attempts at having depth doesn't work for him.
  • Now to move onto the annual season of blind optimism for recruits who haven't played a minute in Hilton yet. Javan is the new Shayok. Foster is the next Ben Simmons.

Agreed with above. Too many wasted possessions.

But props for Steve actually dialing up a play that worked for a dunk. The inbounds play to get a shot at the end though pretty awful.

Maybe JP will let them sell booze in all of Hilton next year. It might be what is needed to keep fan moral up.

Yeah I just don't think anyone proved to Prohm that they deserved to be THE guy off the bench last year, the last man in the rotation so to speak. Between T-Lew and Griffin, both had plenty of opportunities this season to seize the moment and be that guy. Neither could deliver consistently. The game last night was a microcosm of TLew's entire season. Make a great play, turn around and give up an even better one. I do find it odd that even as depleted as we were, Griffin saw 0 minutes last night. He certainly shouldn't be playing if we have a full deck, but there were minutes to be had last night, with as poor as some were playing

C'mon man. There was .6 seconds left on the clock for our final shot. John Wooden would have had a really hard time drawing up a good play in that situation.

People are losing their minds... what is the point of cancelling games when the only people there are coaches and players and some media?
