We're not on different pages here.
He gets pretty good players, not elite (which is just fine), but he doesn't know how to align them as a team or do much once they're here.

Bingo. We just have a random assortment of players with no real thought given to what type of team we want to be.

WVU is a good example. It's not like they are settling the world on fire (just couches) on the recruiting front. But Huggins has a system and an identity and he brings in guys that fit what he's trying to do. So I think a start would be what type of team or we trying to be?

We need another guard next year -- else we might be starting Bubu Palo.
*DeAndre Kane enters the chat.*
How the heck is this guy from a C-USA team going to lead the squad next year?

Georges and Melvin need to find another gear. Georges had a good freshman year and Melvin is a good role player, but can they really be stars for this team?

This Hogue guy is a JUCO. I hope he can play in the Big 12.

These true freshman guards need to be Big 12 ready. I am really excited about this near 5* Matt Thomas -- should start from Day 1, and maybe this Morris kid from Michigan will develop into something later, but he is just so small/skinny right now.

Getting something out of the bench guys might be nice. They need to start showing something soon, or guys like Naz Long might as well transfer out.

Can this hodgepodge replace Lucious, Babb, Clyburn, and McGee? That is way too much scoring and way too many minutes for the team to bounce back next year.

If you're saying we basically need all of these things to happen on the same team, I agree.

How much does the players outside life have on their athletic team work. Does coaching today have as many issues with that, but not the depth to control it quality wise.

Worst: 216 (2010-11 first year) ; 2nd worst ranking was 116
Avg Ranking: 91

McD
Best: 27 (2008-09)
Worst: 114 (2009-10)
Avg Ranking: 85

Morgan

Zero outside shooting if you try to make one of them a "4."

Teams would just pack in on us even more and completely neutralized the goods things on offense we have with the Haliburton P&R and Bolton driving to the rim.

Imagining one of those two trying to guard a quick wing... not good.

We have three centers. We do not really have a viable 4.

We just got housed last night by a team that starts 2 fives and is the worst 3 pt shooting team in our league. Just because our coach can't figure out how to make it work doesn't mean it's not possible. It's about tailoring your strategy to the strengths of your team. There is a reason Huggy is a Hall of Famer.

Wrong! We're the worst 3 point shooting team in our league.

WVU is #6 in the country on Bart Torvik.

KU, Baylor, and WVU are not just good -- they are all legit Finale Four contenders.

Maybe their big men do not provide much for outside shooting, you are right about that particular drawback in their play and system, but they provide way more on the boards and being able to defend anywhere on the court than our guys.

ISU to Baylor is only about 4%. Round it up to 5%.

That is one shot in 20 worth of difference. Roughly one more made per game.

Funny how it can be so much yet so little, eh?

I'd say part of why they are so good is, they play to their strengths and are very well coached. Their coach is getting the most out of them, even if it means changing the way they play. Huggy has a totally different team than the last time he had them this good, he understood he can't have Haley, Matthews and the two bigs playing the pressing style they won with in the past. He learned from last year's struggles. We have a coach who lacks the ability or willingness to do the same.

So is one of Prohm's challenges is that he's able to find solid talent, taken individually, but either he doesn't approach recruiting with a format in mind or a plan how it would shape together? Or does he have a basic vision but can't get it to work properly (or it doesn't work the way he expected)?
