The garage is 13 floors. From what I am hearing the tower is still going to happen. I hope they pull it off, a 40 floor 452 ft tower apart from the main clump of towers will really enhance our skyline.

Do you know if the plan is to still have all apartments above the hotel? Or whether they are considering selling condos instead?

haven't heard anything about condo's just apartments. I wouldn't rule it out though, they told my brother about a year and a half ago they would consider it.

From what I hear, it is a continue challenge for the developer to secure the necessary financing. I think this shows the challenges of trying to build something this big in a city the size of DSM. There appears to be a committed hotel chain to take several floors and a movie operator. But as it stands today, the developer has missed the city's latest deadlines.

I try and stay optimistic, but if you were financing this, where is your projections on where the economy is going to go the next few years? We have already surpassed a record bull market as well as other economic variables.

We are due for a "natural" turn down in the economy and that is without considering a potential non-free market Prez being elected in 2020. (plz don't make this political with any responses. . This is about the realities about what makes the markets and financiers nervous....which don't tend to be a good outcome for the economy....at least near term).

Lol of course you would make a massively political statement and then demand others 'not make this political'.

Because there is no Presidential candidate who is factually opposed to free market economics, but some are routinely characterized as such.

When you make the claim that there is a potential for a President who is anti-free market, you're inherently making a judgment based on political opinion and not the actual economical truth of the matter.

Please explain how it is not "economic" over political? Don't political candidates bring an economic philosophy to their candidacy?

Literally no candidate is against free markets, no matter how much you rwnjs scream "SOCIALISM!". Some just support the kind of free and fair markets that had the United States at its most successful and are against the kind of unregulated markets that have lead us into a second gilded age

"fair markets". I rest my case. Who decides what is fair...and the fact that someone is "deciding" blows up the concept of free market capitalism.

I"m not saying you have to be in favor of free markets...just please recognize what it is....and what it isn't.

Not going to go into much more than this, but this is non-controversial. Bernie Sanders is a self-proclaimed socialist. He is not even a Democrat . He only uses the party as a platform to be relevant nationally. (The same way Ron Paul used the "R" on the other side.) He is, and has been, listed as registered as an "Independent" for decades. My strong "D" supporting neighbor & activist (who was in the Maine legislature for several yrs before moving to Iowa) puts it best. "I can't support Sanders - he isn't even a member of my party."

Your problem is your looking at it from a macro level. Financial players are less likely to lend for stuff right now because they don’t like some of the Democrats as much.

this project should be looked at in a micro lease though. The Des Moines market is going to be experiencing housing shortages in the next 20-30 years as it continues to grow. This project makes total sense.

Now whether they’re having difficulty getting the financing because of those macro level issues or not I don’t know.

Except policy wise even Bernie is more of a social democrat. The socialist thing is branding for him-in large part because republicans have branded everything to the left of far right as "socialist". May as well embrace it if they're going to call literally everything socialism.

No one would consider the USA of 40-50 years ago to not be a free market country and that is pretty much all even the farthest left democrats want to take things back to, economically. A resurgence of new deal democrats, really.

Link to where Bernie would oppose this building, thanks in advance
