Lots of interesting match ups in this one. I am really excited for this dual and finally beat the big 12 champs but it’s gonna be hard. Will we have Degen? Is it actually doable?

I know it’s a week away but I thought I would jump start the conversation since this one is huge.

149: Lewallen dec Degen - 7-6 Okie
157: Carr maj Sheets - 10-7 ISU
165: Wittlake dec Straw - 10-10
174: Colbray dec Shomers - 13-10 ISU
184: Montalvo dec Coleman - 13-13
197: Geer maj Shapiro 17-13 Okie

Starting weight looks to be a possible bigger deal tonight. Nice to have the stronger wrestlers know what they need at the end.

Copied from the Pokes message board:

If you take the following to NCAAs... it'll be competitive.

125 - Piccinnini - Top 4
133 - Witcraft - probably a R16 / R12 guy
141 - Gfeller - Should be AA competitor... but... IDK what's going on with him.#
149 - Boo - Finals contender
157 - Sheets - R16
165 - Wittlake - AA
174 - Joe Smith - AA*
184 - Dakota Geer - Top 4
197 - Andrew Marsden / Alex Kauffman - R16
Hwt - No qualifier.

#Dusty Hone started at 141 pounds while No. 10 Kaden Gfeller sat in the bleachers after not weighing in (vs. WV)
*Joe Smith is out with an undisclosed injury.

I pretty much agree with your prediction, except I think Mackall can keep it to a dec which will leave a tied dual.

A win for ISU at 49 or 84 could be huge, but I’d be pretty surprised to see either of those go ISU’s way..

I could see us winning 149 and 184, but I could also see us losing 133 and 141 pretty easily.

This meet will be a great litmus year for the program. Many winnable matches. If we are going to get the Pokes this needs to be the year as they are reloading and still have Fix coming back next year. They’ve had a couple incredible recruiting classes.

do we know if Degen is looking to wrestle Sunday. Seems like there are some rumors about the injury being more serious than previously indicated.

I think 133 will be a big match. I think Witcraft is a thrower and pins guys. Keep out of trouble and I think Small wins.

This thing is gonna be tight as hell but I do think there are multiple routes to a win. But there isn’t a lot of wiggle room. A pin on either side could make the difference

Threw Mickey Phillippi to his back this weekend, had a 6-0 lead before getting pinned in a cradle in the 2nd period.

And the health of the team. Carr & Degen being close to 100% is important.

Gremmel is wrestling everybody close right now. Needs to open it up on some of these guys. He is capable of it.

Lewallen was picking apart Degen pretty easily last year before he got injured.

If we don't get a win out of Small at 133 it will be a bummer.
Swing matches at 33, 41 (if its Gfeller), 49 (lean ok st), 65 (lean ok st), 74 (if Joe Smith), and 84.
Have to pull off an upset or 2 and not give up anything.

Only clue I have is that Dresser's last comment about Degen is that it would likely be February before he is back. Said he was doing well and working out, but were trying to be smart with it. I don't expect to see him this week, but he was able to play football in the pool:), so you never know!

You're way more optimistic than I am. Hope you are right!
125: Nick Picc maj Mackall - 4-0 Okie * - If this is not a fall or TF, I am pleased
133: Small dec Witcraft - 4-3 okie * - Small has a path to grind out a win, but as others have said, needs to stay away from the big move.
141: Parker dec Gfeller/Hone - 6-4 ISU * - If Hone, I agree. I think G beats Ian, unfortunately.
149: Lewallen dec Degen - 7-6 Okie *- If Degan, I agree. If Leisure, MD or Pin
157: Carr maj Sheets - 10-7 ISU *- Assuming Carr is really not hurt, I still think it's a regular decision.
165: Wittlake dec Straw - 10-10 * - At least a MD here.
174: Colbray dec Shomers - 13-10 ISU * - ok
184: Montalvo dec Coleman - 13-13 *- Montalvo just beat top 10 Pitt guy. Hopefully, Marcus holds to a regular decsion.
197: Geer maj Shapiro 17-13 Okie *- This is likely Pin.
285: Gremmel dec Harris/Putnam 17-16 Okie * - ok
