You think Hoiberg was on the level Beard was? Hoiberg was good, but Beard is a damn-near miracle worker with how quickly he brought TT to relevance with absolutely nothing to work with. No inheritance, no history, nothing. He's been one of the best in the game the last couple years.

We can find good coaching, sure, but Beard has been far beyond good.

No saying Fred was at Beard level. He wasn’t and still is not.

But we still reloaded and made the tournament every year.

The players run this program. Prohm is intimidated by them. They jack up 3's whenever they want. There is no authority figure. It's pathetic.
If the players ran this program they would at least know how to play with each other. Sorry you are just now catching on. This is what a prohm coached team without NBA talent looks like.

ok you young kids, NOW we can try for some hilton magic.

this is how we used to play under johnny orr - get absolutely drilled on the road. and there's no magic without being crushed on the road in the same season. its a key ingredient.

and now we just need jackson or nixon to suddenly shoot 4-6 from 3, and our defense to show up better than we've ever seen before, and THEN you get hilton magic.

Beard is having success, that is certain. He's doing it low brow though. Brings in guys that have suspect offensive talent, but makes sure they know their role when they come in. Aka do not shoot unless you have a wide open dunk or layup, bruise and body people, use your hands cuz the refs won't call it every time, and flop like your playing time depends on it. His team's don't strike me as skilled. They play tough defense, they wear you down physically and might even get in your head mentally, but aside from a couple guys he's had there in his time, they seem mediocre to average in sheer talent and skill

Hoiberg had a bunch of 4-year players carrying the team every year, supplanted by a single grad transfer. There wasn't as much reloading as it seemed.

Meanwhile, Prohm lost a couple starters early to the pros last year and is losing another this year. And it's not like our recruiting classes have been bad on paper. Not saying our coach is great, just comparing.

I hate to bring Fred into this (gonna happen anyway) but he wasn't exactly an authoritative type iirc. Although, I remember in the 1st round game in 2014, I think Monte tried to get cute with ISU leading and turned it over, and Fred yelled so loud you could actually hear it on TV. It was a rarity but probably effective.

Not sure what Prohm does but it seems like he maybe barks a lot but doesn't really have much of an effect. Like, is it genuine?

ISU's had yellers before but it always felt real. Maybe there's something to it.

You realize coaches in the NCAA have direct control over their rosters?

Worst ISU team in at least a decade if not more. This team is just hard to watch, we cannot shoot the ball from three, we don't play great defense, we look lost on offense.

Like I said before, give Prohm this season for a mulligan, if we are this bad next year, time to go shopping for a new coach.
