I disagree with Brett but the Hawkeye tears in the responses on Twitter are delicious.

Unlike some fans, I WANT high expectations. It's happened so rarely in my lifetime, I like to finally have found some cred here & there.
On the other hand, the lofty expectation got to me a little in '19 and it started to make watching games more stressful than necessary. That's more of a "me' problem, but ...
I wish these national guys would go back to picking us last in the conference and treating us as the worthless whipping boy of the conference. We always use that as motivation to win all of our conference championships. Every year we're picked preseason top 10 we stumble and only finish a disappointing 11-1.
Us fans know it's hard to live up to the hype yet every year here comes McMurphy and Phil Steele raving about national title contender Iowa State the favorite to win the big 12 once again. I'm just tired of it.

A fun thing (historically) about that list: Iowa State's odds are better than Florida State, Miami and Nebraska. It's trivial, but notable.

Now coming in at 16. Maybe I should just book my hotel room in Arlington and leave my NY6 bowl destination open. Too bad Sugar Bowl is a CFP location and not a lock for the Big 12.

Pretty crazy. We haven't really earned anything, IMO, other than the right to not reside in the bottom 3 of preseason Big 12 rankings anymore. Preseason #25? OK. Maybe. But #10 or #16 (ESPN).... they're searching for clicks.
For fans who fear too much hype will spoil the team ... ISU didn't make CBS Sports "Too Early Top 25"!
I'm not so sure about that. The Sugar Bowl is closer. If we are the only undefeated team, we could be ranked #1 and get sent to New Orleans as a nod to the Big 12 traditional bowl tie-ins. Or they could end up ranking us #4 and we would end up facing a #1 Clemson/ SEC Champ in their closest bowl, the Sugar Bowl. Big 10 Champ and #3 will get sent to Rose Bowl.
Only way I would want to go to Rose Bowl would be if we faced Stanford. When their marching band sends out another cow, we have some VetMed students ready to run out and give it an exam...
I think Sugar Bowl more likely. Maybe I should be booking my room in the big easy....
