Stolen (potentially) medical supplies from the renters that worked at the hospital. They were probably trying to sell it on the black market and couldn't. Honestly, it's best to dispose of it rather than try selling. Safety, etc...

There's a pretty good chance it's a sales demo or model that was used for training. Also could have broke or got contaminated before it was supposed to be implanted.

Also, @cyclonesurveyor have you actually opened the box? Is it still in the sterilization packaging?
