Why must the Natty Champ game be 2 weeks after the first round??
Think it is for the teams/fans to have time to plan after they get back from the semi's. If it was just a week between games that's a pretty tough/quick turn-around. Especially for the fans.

Why must the Natty Champ game be 2 weeks after the first round??

It's on a Monday night, so in 2020 that's either Jan. 6 or Jan. 13. With the Sugar Bowl on the 1st, there probably wasn't enough time to get everything turned around to have the next game on the 6th. (Just swapping out the signage alone would take a day or two.)

For 2020-21, there will be a 9-day gap at Hard Rock between the Orange (Jan. 2) and the championship game (Jan. 11).

After that, the next few years are in venues without a preliminary game (Indianapolis, new LA stadium, Houston) so they can have the championship game between Jan. 6-9 without having to worry about a quick turnaround.
