Why does everyone say this? Alamo has taken Texas plenty of times before. They even took them 2 years in a row in 2012 and 2013. Alamo wants Texas.

I think Texas is the only unranked team the Alamo has taken in the past however many years, and they use their ranked-team streak in marketing.

They definitely want UT; they can fill that stadium with San Antonio area UT fans without even trying.

In 2012, Texas was the only remaining Big 12 team available that was ranked in both Harris and Coaches polls (AP wasn't part of the BCS formula), and BCS #23.

In 2013, they were the only remaining Big 12 team available that was receiving votes in both of those polls -- and had the best overall record of the remaining Big 12 teams.

The "ranked team" thing is very important to the Alamo Bowl. It's one of their key talking points every year.

Would be interesting to know what the factors are and how they are prioritized - is TV revenue the biggest driver or is it local economy or other factors. If it's TV revenue then I could see Texas because they would probably draw a larger TV audience. Also, yes the Alamo bowl has picked them many times but maybe they had better teams those seasons and weren't replacing many of their coaching staff. Tomorrow will be interesting.

When did that become a thing? I remember them taking a 6-6 Iowa team once, but that was probably when they Alamo was lower in the Big 10 pecking order.

That was in 1993, which was the first year the game existed.

EDIT: You're thinking 2006. Sorry, Iowa has gotten in that game with 6 wins several times.

They’re only ranked option will be Okie State who will be down Hubbard and potentially their QB and WR. So I think TX will be the pick. May be wishful thinking but I’m sticking with ISU in Orlando...

Among our misgivings about having to play in Liberty was possibly playing the home team ... well we avoid that, but could play Cincinnati, which would be playing its third straight game there (!) Home away from home.

OU to CFP.
BU to Sugar.
KSU to Alamo.
UT to Camping World vs. ND (TV ratings matter).
ISU to Texas.
OSU to Liberty.

The above are the only bowl eligible teams from the Big 12. Cheez-it and First Responders will have to select alternate teams.

Why would Alamo pass on Texas?

Mandel from Athletic has updated us to Memphis vs UCF. Has Texas in Alamo, KSU in Orlando, OSU in Houston.
