I don't think Brands was trying to fool anybody with his lineup, nor has he in the past. I think they were more just trying to get Teasdale more matches than a single dual, which could have been the case with Wilcke.

I am not too concerned with a "mild concussion" with Gomez. Hold him out for a while, take their time getting him back. There is no need to have him rush back. They have Small to fill in at 133 for now, get him some experience at the D1 level. My bigger worry with Gomez would be reports (from FRL) that he was up near 160-170 over the summer. I mean, he isn't very tall, so that seems like a laid back summer to me.

It was 3. Junior year runner-up to Schultz when NCAAs were in Ames. Nate Carr vs Kenny Monday was the other classic that year.
You are correct. Nate was our only champion that year it looks like. There were three sets of siblings that AA that year. It was really a family driven sport at that point. The Gibbons bros for ISU, the Schultz brothers who both won titles as underdogs, and the Banachs.

I rewatched that Schultz/Banach match on YouTube. I give Mark a ton of credit for continuing to just go for broke after getting a decent lead on Ed. It wasn't the smartest way to wrestle but just watching guys go for standing body lock throws the whole match is hugely entertaining.

Predictions:
125- Lee MD Mackall 4-0 IA
133- Small Dec Glynn 4-3 IA
141- Parker Dec Desanto 6-4 ISU
149- Degen Dec Lugo 9-4 ISU
157- Young Dec Carr 9-7 ISU
165- Bull pin Straw 13-9 IA
174- Kem MD Coleman 17-9 IA
184- Colbray Dec Wilcke 17-12 IA
197- Warner MD Shapiro 21-12 IA
Hwt Cass Dec Gremmel 24-12 IA

Could see Carr beating Young to make it 21-15 IA, but unfortunately have a hard time seeing it much closer than that. This is a really good Iowa team that could very well win nationals in March. I would be happy if we win 4, really happy if we can win 5 matches. Ultimately I am just looking for fight and toughness from our guys.

I've got 2 GA tickets to this dual loaded to my cyclone club account. Anyone want to put these to use? I can send electronically.

These are now claimed

Throw in a Carr win and I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat

I'd be surprised if Warner MDs Shapiro. I think Cass gets more than a dec win over GG.

Could be. I am more bullish on Gremmel this year than most, and also probably not as high on Shapiro as some are.
I'm high on Grem but I think he at gets majored and I won't be surprised if he gets stuck. Not a knock on him just think Cassioppi is on another level. Hope to be proven wrong of course. I'm optimistic about Shapiro long term but who is high on him right now? After watching him at Harold Nichols and against Bucknell, he clearly has a long ways to go. He's going to take his lumps this year for sure. Again hopefully he proves me wrong and gives Warner all he can handle and then some.
