My good buddies dad was born in DeKalb as well (go barbs!) and he dated Cindy Crawford in HS...

They broke up. He went on to play QB at Arizona and marry a cheerleader and has college level and beyond athletes for children, it's all very annoying.

Is it really at the point in time where people's dads dated Cindy Crawford? I'm about to turn to dust.

I wonder if we'll see Jackson start and Nixon sit, or even starting Griffin.

Serously doubt that... Nixon has looked more than solid early and been pretty good early especially as an on ball defender/tone setter. Jackson can earn more time, especially if he hit 3's but I don't see him getting a starting job from Bolton or Nixon who both are proven double digit P6 scorers.

As for Griffin, he can play stretch PF especially in certain match ups but I expect Jacobson to be the starter at PF for the year. Griffin cold eventually be a Ejim type undersized PF but I don't think he's there strength wise quite yet. Now with Foster (ideal stretch 4 skills to pair with Conditt) on his way, I could see the staff focusing on him playing SF in the future.

I wonder how long Prohm will play Jacobson at the 4 if it isn't working? Seems like defense is going to continue to be an issue.

Agreed, although I thought his offensive performance against Oregon State left a little to be desired. At any rate I think he's too valuable to them defensively to have him coming off the bench.

Yeah, I think Prohm is going to need to reel him in offensively even though he doesn't like to do that.

I am on the younger side of working professionals on this site, I'd have to imagine. So it's not that crazy haha, but still crazy to think about. I found out about this about 10 years ago myself when she mentioned him "her prom date" in an interview and my dad picked up on it haha then told me the situation lol

Tonight is when Nixon should shine. German is exactly the type of player in which Nixon provides value.

If he plays like he did on offense against Oregon St, Jackson and Grill will need to see more time. Nixon isn’t proven as a P6 scorer.

Zion’s future is hard to project. He certainly has potential, but I think his best path to PT is as a 4. But he’s not there yet, and there will be more competition going forward. Does the easy PT this year expedite his development? I don’t see his perimeter skills becoming worthy of taking a wing or 3rd guard out. We’ve got a lot of good sized wings and guards going forward.

To this point on Nixon's offense. I think CW hit the nail on the head in his Monday Musings podcast. Nixon is our stopper. He is our guy who takes ownership of having to stop the other teams best player(guard). On nights where there are those high volume guys on the opposing side, he is going to give you 120% on defense, so seeing an 80% output on offenses shouldn't be unexpected. Defense, when exerting all of your effort, is far more draining than offense (on average).

I'm not saying that I'm giving a free pass for Nixon to dog it, or suck, on offense. But rather saying that when he is putting so much in to defense, he'll be needing to catch his breath somewhere.

To your point, FinalFour, this is prime for Jackson to step into that Tyrus McGee-type role if he can keep shooting with the confidence he has been.

It's what I was worried about with Nixon going into the season. He had a green light at Colorado State and it's a pretty big ask to have a guy change his mentality from go-to scorer to defensive specialist and spot-up shooter. I'm not saying he can't or won't make the jump; it just might take some time.

I agree with your general point, but he had a higher usage than Haliburton against OSU, and tied with Haliburton and Jacobson on shot attempts. The issue was he wasn’t hiding on offense in order to focus on defense.

I hope to see him be the defensive leader and just pick his spots on offense. Bring in Jackson and Grill when he’s getting tired or out of control on offense.

And our defense on Tinkle was lacking in the final minutes, but that’s a tough cover for a 6’1” guard

I think the best chance of possibly changing the starting lineup this year (Not saying it will happen etc) is Conditt moving into the starting 5 somehow.
Agree. At the very least, he needs starter minutes most nights. No more postgames saying how he should have played more.

You're right, and your second point was the point I was trying to make (poorly). I think because of that usage, and the ability of other guys to step up now knowing he is going to be working on the defensive end, it will get better as the year goes on.

I'm not worried about his ability to guard, but if he is pressing for his shot that may be a bit more concerning.

I didn't see the game live on Saturday, just highlights and box score, did you watch? If so, were they forced on Nixon's part or more just weren't falling?

Imo, they were forced in the sense Nixon taking 11 shots is not our best offense.
