Way up there
As a fellow wrong side of the Missouri River person, I corrected your statement. Their isn't a living "average UNL fan" who thought they would win less than 8 games, most expected 10-2. Now this point in the season, reality may be setting in. However, come next spring they once again will be planing their trips to bowl games and the B1G championship game?

I'm just a hair on the Iowa side of the river so I feel your pain, I have a good friend that has bet $250 on the Huskers to win all 5 b1g games, straight up. He plans to bet on the rest of their schedule as well. His preseason prediction was 12-2, b1g Champs, he had them beating tOSU twice while losing at Colorado (Husker fans still think the Buffs are good) and in the first round of the cfp. My first response was to ask why he didn't think they could win it all this year. He answered, that would just be unrealistic to expect of Frost in his second year....delusion doesn't even begin to describe Husker fans, I honestly think non Husker fans who live in Husker country are the only ones that can truly get how deep it goes.

Before we get too carried away with what UNL was hoping for when they went B1G, let's remind ourselves of the real reason they left the BigXII.

2000 - Oklahoma
2001 - Colorado
2002 - Oklahoma
2003 - KState
2004 - Oklahoma
2005 - Texas
2006 - Oklahoma
2007 - Oklahoma
2008 - Oklahoma
2009 - Texas
2010 - Oklahoma

What they've seen since getting to the B1G:
2011 Wisconsin
2012 Wisconsin (Nebraska lost B1G title game 738-7 I think)
2013 Michigan St
2014 Ohio St
2015 Michigan St
2016 Penn St
2017 Ohio St
2018 Ohio St

So are we trying to say Nebraska football isn't elite? Like they are pretty much Northwestern now? Without the academics obviously

THIS. People who think Hawkeye fans are worse than Husker fans have never spent much time with Husker fans.

Hawkeye fans are annoying, but Huskers are way worse.

I feel like this reads as a parody post but it is all so true. Lived in Omaha for 6 or 7 years and it's insane how bonkers but delusional they are.

Try living in town with them. It never ends. I think KETV the local ABC station spends about half their coverage on random husker crap. The other half, shootings of course. Both can get covered in one story.

They are pretty much a Northwestern or Maryland now. They might beat up on some of the truly terrible teams or in years when they get the Iowa 2015/Minnesota 2019 cupcake special schedule they might get to the B1G title game as the Big 10 West sacrificial lamb.

I grew up in Omaha TV coverage in Western Iowa. This was when they were winning under Osborne. It was intolerable then, and somehow worse now.

My friends in Lincoln, who are lifelong husker fans, understand football and think Frost is a bad coach. Group text messages with them during husker games is just them complaining the entire time. Mostly about play calling and players not being in the right position.

As someone who lives and breathes Huskers 24/7, my take on their ongoing problems is that Frost made a huge mistake with Mo Washington. The kid was arrested and charged with sending porn to a minor (his ex-girlfriend). So, it is one thing when a kid is charged with something but it was an innocent mistake or it is questionable if he actually committed the crime. But in the case of Washington, everyone knows he did exactly what he is charged with. So, he did commit a felony.

Then over the Summer, he got caught and charged with marijuana possession. So you have a kid who committed a felony but is dragging it out in the courts so far, and then gets arrested for marijuana (although I think they somehow made that go away). So Frost makes him sit out the first half of the South Alabama game. And then supposedly puts him on a tight leash.

However, a few weeks into the season he has been violating some unspecified team rule or rules, they won't give specifics. So he sits out the first half of another game, Northwestern. Then he plays at Minnesota, but then is suspended for violating team rules. As of now he is still suspended.

So, because Washington is one of the top 3 or 4 players on the team, his punishments have been seemingly low-key and his leash has been actually quite long. He has no respect for the law or authority, but yet keeps getting another chance, and another, and another.

So, imagine how this looks and feels to all those other kids busting their butts, obeying all the rules, going to class, being on time everywhere. To my thinking, that is how you lose a team. Do you think the 3rd-string tight end would still be on the team this far into the season?

So, admittedly, this is just my opinion, but I think Frost has lost the respect of a lot of these kids because of the huge disparity in the way he treats players. Frost talks tough, "I want kids that are tough." "I want kids that are 100% bought in." But in reality Washington is neither of those, but he is fast and elusive and so he gets forgiven time after time. It would sure make me mad if I was sitting on the bench and seeing this.

Nebraska's two top running backs, including Heisman Trophy contender Lawrence Phillips, were arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting women, leaving the defending national champions in turmoil.

Coach Tom Osborne kicked Phillips off the team Sunday night, but hinted today that the junior's college career might not be over.

"Obviously, we've lost a great player," Osborne said. "Lawrence was playing as well as any I-back we've had in a long time. . . . Unfortunately, he will not play for quite a while, if at all."

Osborne said the other arrested running back, junior Damon Benning, won't be suspended "unless the facts dictate otherwise." The coach wouldn't explain why Phillips was treated differently from Benning and wide receiver Riley Washington, who has remained on the team after being charged with attempted murder.

Asked if Phillips could return to the second-ranked Cornhuskers, Osborne said he didn't know.

"You never say never," he said. "But he's certainly got to get some things accomplished. . . . There's no time limit on his suspension. Obviously, if he did return, it would not be any time real soon."

Phillips's whereabouts were unknown today, and his lawyer, Hal Anderson, did not return telephone messages from the Associated Press.

Nebraska plays its home opener Saturday against Arizona State.

Phillips was arrested Sunday on suspicion of misdemeanor assault of a 20-year-old woman and trespassing at the apartment of another football player, quarterback Scott Frost.

Police chief Tom Casady said Phillips apparently scaled the wall to reach the third-floor balcony of the apartment. Casady said Phillips allegedly assaulted the woman with his hands, then took her downstairs to the foyer of the building, where residents pulled him away.

Casady would not identify the woman, but police reports say she is Katherine McEwen, a sophomore on the women's basketball team who was once Phillips's girlfriend.

Casady said McEwen has left Nebraska for her own protection.

Benning was arrested at his Lincoln apartment early Saturday on suspicion of misdemeanor assault for allegedly grabbing a 19-year-old woman and pushing her.

In a statement released through the university, Benning said he was innocent.

Benning and Phillips were released after posting bond. Lancaster County Attorney Gary Lacey said he didn't know when he would decide what formal charges to file.

Phillips is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. Benning's court appearance is set for Sept. 27.

Phillips was recently cleared to play following an NCAA investigation into his relationship with a sports agent. The NCAA, however, is still investigating whether Phillips received any improper favors, including a 1995 Mustang convertible.

Osborne has said that he believes Washington is innocent of the attempted second-degree murder charge. Washington, who has practiced with the team since he was released from jail, has been ordered to stand trial on the charge, which stems from an Aug. 2 shooting at a Lincoln convenience store.

Yeah, when Frost arrived he realized that there weren't nearly enough convicts on the team. That was Osborne's secret and Frost is hell bent on returning Nebraska to it's historical "glory".

I told you I'm surrounded by Husker fans, this should be obvious. I can understand why a KU fan wouldn't get this, you guys thrive on the same type of arrogance. Easily the worst two fanbases I've encountered in my 30+ years of attending big 8/big 12 sporting events. The worst are the fans that root for KU bball and Husker football, Omaha is full of those p.o.s.

Well I heard Frost was hiding in a closet when Phillips showed up and dragged the girl down the stairs by her hair. Nice.

Contributory to his losing the team is his constant almost comical references to how great his teams were....I mean he does it more in reality than we mock that he does. I would just love to have a time machine/alternate universe to drop Mr. Scott Frost onto an Indiana team in 1995....or an Oregon STate team or Vanderbilt....He just thinks he is entitled to glory. He seems oblivious that he was a member of a semi-professional team of non-academics that were playing mostly college teams with student athletes (exception OU and a bowl opponent). The "culture" he waxes for was not good culture for those of us remembering it......guys dragging women down the hall while smashing their bloody faces against the walls, the dirty playing with spitting and love pinches in scrums, stacked rosters, partial qualifiers, probable steroid use, etc....This is fun. Count me in the camp that wants them to lose out including a loss to Iowa.

That tradition pre-dates Osborn. Devaney kept Johnny Rogers in the program after he held up a gas station in 1970. It payed off when Rogers helped them to a couple of Natty’s and won the Heisman in ‘72

I live in Omaha. The pre-season literal sex is absurd. The media- starting with the AWFUL Omaha World Herald is so out of touch with the grand scope of things. Back when we sucked, regardless of a cyclone win or loss, a Nebraska loss would make my weekend. These days I’m thriving.
