Just an FYI... the final vote was down to the Knights, Wolfpack, or Wolves for mascots. And Carolina blue vs royal blue for primary color. Secondary colors silver, black, and white were already decided.

All of that just sucks donkey ****. Safe, unoriginal, easy, The logo is a horrible, overdesigned cartoon. All of it just very, very forgettable with zero capability of forming any long-term tradition. The name, mascot, colors lack even a shred of authentic personality. Well done Waukee, the long line to the "What's Everyone Else Doing Show" forms to the left. Er... northwest.

You're talking about a district that has paid out millions in whistleblower settlements and had major administrative financial mismanagement. I'm guessing the last thing they wanted to do was stir up any more controversy than necessary here.

I didn't like the unoriginality either. According to the original vote, Miners was the favorite, doubling the percent of 2nd place (Wildcats). But apparently Miners is considered "Polarizing/Divisive – Strong negative associations Outdated, unknown, antiquated".

Yep. Miners would've been really cool. Someone else mentioned 78ers as a nod to the town's establishment. Either of those would've been 1,000 times cooler, more believable and memorable. This is what you end up with when you have a bunch of old, pasty suburbanites making decisions by committee.

Miners would have been awesome.
WM are very "linkable" letters and could have a really cool logo like West Virginia, VMI, etc.

Exactly. They're so shortsighted with logos like the cartoon wolf. That thing will be dated in 5 years.

Ankeny IA
I don't know if they're gerrymandering these, or if that's what they did with Ankeny schools, but all of a sudden Ankeny started to suck and Centennial is a perennial power.

Right off the bat, there were definite differences in athletic success in those programs where the head coach didn’t properly prepare for the split. Freshman, sophomore, and JV squads weren’t split ahead of time to allow for plenty of playing experience in order to fill 2 future varsity teams.

Pezetti Acted like there was only 1 football program to worry about. Consequently, he had plenty of experienced FB players at Centennial but only left about 5 or 6 players at Ankeny who had any playing experience in their entire high school careers, let alone varsity careers. The year they split - Centennial was great and Ankeny was terrible.

Whims, on the other hand, had 2 sets of VB squads from JV on down for a couple years prior to the split occurring. The year of the split - both Centennial and Ankeny made state.

By now things have evened out and each of the high schools is at least as big as the high school was pre-split. Growth is unreal!

During the Ankeny split, the better athletes mostly lived in the Northern part of the old district, putting them in the new school. Most of the varsity coaches followed the talent and went to the new school.

Ankeny will be fine, it will take a few years to even it out, but it will happen. Maybe WD Valley should follow their lead and split the district also.

Valley is an institution. A whole city block, 1/4 mile long hallway, best athletics, best party school, best extra curriculars, most challenging academics...it’s the most famous school in the state. You don’t just “split that up”.

I know very little about everything else you posted, but best athletics is a stretch. Maybe back in the day but besides girls basketball, very few championships in other sports in the last decade
