10. QB Brock Purdy, Iowa State
Last Week: 13th

Oh, you haven’t heard about Brock Purdy yet? If it weren’t for Trevor Lawrence’s fabulous true freshman season, Purdy would have his spot in the PFF College record books as the highest-graded true freshman quarterback in our history, yet he still holds that second spot. Currently, Purdy is the owner of the second-highest passing grade in any single game from a quarterback and his outing against Texas Tech was a teaser for the national audience at just how good he can be. He threw for 378 yards and three scores, averaging 11.8 yards per attempt while his underrated athleticism has seen him record multiple first downs and touchdowns on the ground with his legs. He’s trending in the right direction against Big 12 competition, as the Cyclones have an interesting date with the Sooners looming.

Clemson hasn't had anyone recently win Heisman and Alabama has 2 in 10 years.

You certainly don't need to be #1 team, but likely need to be top 10-15.

Best offensive skill player on a team voters "think" is going to be a top 3 or top 5 team. Sometimes they lose a couple games to end the year. They get in the race by people thinking they are on a top 3 or top 5 team.

Just watch Taylor fade if Wisconsin loses another game and is clearly outside the top 10 for the rest of the year.

It's really an absurd voting tradition.

Would be great to have another MVP award that can go to any position on any team.

I was looking up Lamar Jackson's heisman year. Can't believe he is only 22 years old.

It's not just the best offensive player. The player needs to be a QB or RB. Seriously, how many WR's or OL have won the Heisman in the last 40 years? Charles Woodson, Tim Brown and Desmond Howard.

Purdy Current Totals 2185yds, 14tds, 4ints, 195yds, 6tds
Purdy Projections (12 games) 3746yds, 24tds, 7ints, 334yds, 10tds

ISU Single Records
Yards = 3245 (Wallace)
Touchdowns = 20 (Bandhauer)

I'd say Brock and the offense are playing pretty well this year.

If ISU wins the Big 12 this year, Purdy could sneak in as a finalist.

Next year's schedule sets up really well for a Purdy Heisman run as long as we can get the OL figured out early. He'll be on the radar to start the season and if we get through October at 6-1 or better, he and the Cyclones will have a shot at something really special in November, December, and maybe January.

Things could shake up a lot yet as LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma all have their best defensive tests still to come. LSU still has Auburn and Alabama, Ohio St. still has Wisconsin, Michigan and PSU, and Oklahoma still has Baylor and ISU. Plus there are the title games. lots of chances for guys to make big moves. Not to mention with Ohio St. you could make an argument between Fields, Dobbins and Young that might split the vote.

Burrow has been great, but he got catapaulted by the Texas game, which after seeing KU put up half a hundred on them doesn't seem all that great anymore.

I think Purdy absolutely has a shot at getting to NY, but it will take a lot. Possibly ISU running the table. If ISU beats OU and he has a big game he probably is knocking on the door.

Hiesman formula for nearly every voter:
Best offensive player on the team I think is going to be ranked #1 to end the year.
I disagree, Lamar Jackson, Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, and Kyler Murray were all on teams they knew weren’t going to be #1.

Currently, the Heisman often goes to the best player on the best team, or at least the best player on a team in the top four or so teams. Troy Davis was the best player, but he was on a team that struggled--a team that was not on TV, and many voters argued that Troy got the ball in blowout losses more to pad his stats.

Brock Purdy, being a quarterback, has a great opportunity next year if he continues to improve and if the team continues to improve. It is a great time to be a Cyclone, isn't it?
Agreed! Look where our program has came along in 5 years. Lose two key position players to the draft and we just got better. The team gets better through season every year tremendously and now we get to watch isu players on sundays

RG3 and Johnny Football both had teams that went 9-3. That's certainly possible for Brock Purdy.

I'm not Saying Brock is going to win it, just pointing out what you said is not really true.

The really weird thing, given their program history, is that those are the only Alabama Heisman winners... ever.
