Other than Carr, what kids do we have that are young or committed that could come in and potentially be hammers?

I vote iowa state goes after Cooper Manning's son, Arch. Read yesterday that he is currently a freshman and starting varsity and is supposedly better than peyton or eli were at that age. If my math is correct, he will be a college freshman the year after Re'al graduates.

Hopefully he is better than Eli and Peyton at Wrestling. I didn't even know they were wrestlers.

To compare Our last 3 years of recruiting here are the kids that were top 50 recruits. I am counting Echemendia because he would have easily been top 50...

125 Reeves #20 (2019)
133
141 Echemendia (2019)
149
157 Carr #5 (2018)
165
174
184
197 Shapiro #45 (2018)
285

We HAVE to have some bluechip kids in the 2021 class or we are going to be in trouble. Virginia Tech has 4 2020 recruits ranked in the top 25 this year alone.

Anderson hurt us.

Echemendia doesn't have the blue chip ranking but he could very well end up being a better recruit than Anderson.

Anderson didn't have the grades to get in, so even if he would've snuck in to school eligibility-wise, who knows how long he could've lasted. Maybe he would've been fine, but if he can't qualify for Iowa State out of an elite catholic school in Pennsylvania, school might just not be for him.

Also, Anderson was pretty well-known for not cutting weight. While it's extremely impressive that he won all those elite tournaments on full-feed, that, in all likelihood, won't fly at the D-1 level. He would either have to be an under-sized 141 pounder or really cut down to 133 and maintain that for a full season. That could prove very difficult for someone who hasn't managed that before.

Admittedly, if he were still coming here I'd be spinning it the other way, but I really do believe Echemendia has a very good chance of being a better college wrestler than Anderson.

To the point of the other posters though, I do agree that we need to see a major uptick in our recruiting of elite wrestlers. Facundo would be a huge step in the right direction. I also noticed there was a freshman named Josh Barr from Davison that is #5 on the 2023 Big Board. Long way out, but still...

I think Broderson was #15 when he signed with us.

Broderson was #15 at his weight, I believe this is for top 50 overall in their classes. I think you can throw in Gomez who was like top 10, but yes i believe we need at least 2-3 top 50 kids in each class if possible. On our roster right now here is who was ranked in the top 100 coming out of high school:

David Carr #2
Sam Colbray #10
Marcus Coleman #78
Jarret Degen #83
Francis Duggan #70
Austin Gomez #11
Gannon Gremmel #60
Ryan Leisure #95
Alex Mackall #71
Ian Parker #88
Aden Reeves (Unkown but was like in the 20-30 range before injury)
Joel Shapiro #45

I maybe missed a few. We have a decent amount of ranked guys, we just need some more and need them to continue to develop.

Only one I haven't seen mentioned is Zach Redding. He is ranked #119 overall and projects at 133, just outside the top 100 but worth mentioning. He has some really good wins but a few bad losses have kept his ranking lower.

Hard to find anything on Track about him and I don't think he wrestled Fargo this year, but he did beat Eric Barnett at the NHSCA duals.

Barnett is a freshman at Wisconsin and has won Fargo freestyle the last two years (once over Aden Reeves, I think), along with a Who's Number One victory over Kurt McHenry (freshman at Michigan). That's a legitimately impressive win, so he certainly has upside.

Zach Redding, a senior from New York verballed this weekend. He is ranked 119 by Flo & projected at 141.

The staff thinks he is a steal.

He has wins over Burwick & Barnett. Both are at Wisconsin this year. Also wins over Lujan, a Fresno State commit, Sullivan, a Pitt commit, & Molton, an Old Dominion recruit.

He is a 3 time New York placewinner. 3rd twice & 1st once. Also a 4 time NHSCA National finalist; winning twice

We basically replaced Anderson with Echemendia.

I agree with raslin - our recruiting HAS to pick up or we aren’t going to be sniffing trophy contention anytime soon...
Oklahoma State and Iowa are working us in recruiting. Not to mention Penn State, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. Cyclones have to pick it up and soon.

Only having seen Echemendia wrestling a couple times, he is by far a superior athlete. He will catch on to folkstyle and be a much better recruit than Anderson. We will look back on Echemendia and wonder how we stole him from the other schools. His skill set and athleticism are world class.

You act like we are 2nd tier program that has to steal wrestlers from other programs. You do realize we have the most alumni Olympic Champions of any school!

Are we Nebraska football now living on past accomplishments forever?

I like the way this program is heading and believe in the coaches and their vision for the program. But the Cyclones were 16th last year and 45th in 2018 at NCAAs.

Teams like Rutgers, Arizona State, Lehigh, Northern Iowa, and Princeton all beat the Cyclones just this last year at nationals. So no, we aren't a top tier program right now. Unless you put 20 teams in your top tier, we see things differently.

Not to mention 2017’s 1 point.
