DM Register may have just dug their grave with this story. How in the hell could you possibly think running this story would turn out well for you? It's probably going to get national attention now which may get them a bunch of ad revenue that the clicks to the story will bring but in the long run is going to cost them subscriptions with the audience they rely on.
