Fan misbehavior? No way!

It’s the reason I refuse to attend the game when it’s at the Johnson County landfill. I’ve had enough abuse from those inbreds.

I liked Iowa fans better back in the late 60s/early 70s when their football team was a joke. The few who showed up in Kinnick were semi-reasonable.

Not exactly sure.
Cat's out of the bag even if not true and Hok fans will ride this for a long time.

I'd be willing to bet there's still many out there that think it was ISU fans stealing from the locker rooms.

Kind of that 'Windmills cause cancer' type of narrative.

Cat was in a bag? No wonder he was irritated. I would be too if I was stuffed in a bag.

Don't have huge insight to share, but my tickets Saturday were (very unfortunately) directly next to the Iowa band. I didn't see exactly what happened, but after the Iowa band played prior to kickoff and was walking back up the stairs to their seats, some fan right on the aisle by the band must have done something because the police accompanying the band went down and escorted him out. However, I don't think it was actually anything too serious as everyone sitting around the guy was looking around very confused and surprised that the guy was getting the boot. Additionally, I didn't see any band members that looked traumatized or accosted, and I didn't hear any chatter throughout the stands about the incident which college students almost certainly would be going crazy about if it was actually significant. I did not see anything or anyone else acting inappropriately while I was there, but I (again unfortunately) had to leave during the second weather delay, so I cannot speak to anything that happened from there. Just thought I would share what I saw and heard since I was in close proximity to the band.

Per KCCI:

The parent of a Hawkeye marching band member said Cyclone fans threw beer, assaulted band members, groped female band members and slapped the drum line director in the face in Ames.

If this really happened, then it happened outside the stadium. I don't see smuggling a beer in just to throw it at the band. Inexcusable either way, but these same things have been happening in IC for years. I still think that the answer is not having the opposing band at the game...especially marching through the parking lot where everyone is drunk.

So this came from one of the band members PARENTS?

New level of helicoptering...

That is actually my guess. Some rich parent who's kid in in the band got upset with what their kids witnessed and called Barta. Instead of being level headed and reasonable, Barta unleashes a press release to appease said parent. I've seen Middle School Principals handle situations like this better than Barta has.

if someone got hit with a beer and someone got groped wouldn’t they make a scene about it? The police officers were there and would respond to someone yelling or the people around that person would tell them you’d think.

If this happened, someone should have been arrested. Any statements from the Polk county sheriff's office that accompanied the band to confirm this? Cause this sort of claim should have been handled by authorities, not the AD. I thought they would learn their lesson after sweeping rape allegations under the rug.

Pollard said they talked to the police office that escorted the band and the officers said there were no incidences to report.

We all know that the police work for Fred. Fred took care of this one as well.

There is no excuse for treating anybody in the way that this parent reports. NONE! Yes, it's happened to me in Iowa City, well a beer thrown at me from a moving bus, not the groping part. Either way don't start casting stones until the facts come out.

That said, what Barta did, yet again, is just horrible. How many times can he do stuff like this. The lawsuits around the abuse in his programs around coaches. The theft in the locker room a few years ago that turned out was an inside job. The way he handled the Dolph situation, now this. And this guy is on the Playoff committee? What am I missing about this guy's ability to not only keep a job but to get more responsibilities and contract extensions?

It's still absolute BS. I don't care. Why you'd throw beer cans at the freaking band is just beyond me.

I think we all agree, but those people are present in every fanbase and there is nothing you can do to change it. It only takes one person in a hundred, or probably more like one in a thousand, but they are there and there is nothing you can do to stop them.

My brother was a member of the ISU band back in the early 90s. He absolutely hates the Hawks because of all the stuff that happened to him over in Iowa City. According to him lots of words said and lots of things thrown at them. I'm sure its been that way for the Iowa band too. The difference is they just dealt with it and didn't run off to mommy and the media. Well it's different times and that has finally changed. Now that it's in the media its only going to heighten the situation and make it worse. Time to just end the bands visiting.

I know a guy that was in the Iowa band and another that was in the Iowa State band. The whole throwing crap at th band happens everywhere and what Barta did was 100% calculated He has donors all over him to cancel the series and this is absolutely his cop out.

And none of these people that were apparently the victims of assaults on several different occasions decided to tell anyone when it happened even though 4 police officers were with them the whole day? Seems logical. Get ******, Iowa.
