However, Sallis is wide open with his recruitment. Kansas State has recruited him pretty heavily and so has Iowa State, a program that might be my choice for who he would commit to today if he felt the need to end his recruitment.

Would be a pretty funny story-line. ISU steals top recruit out of Nebraska from NU and Creighton and two former ISU head coaches. Would be a nice little reminder of where they stand in the pecking order.

This year is pretty important for Fred. There are quite a few big targets out of Nebraska and they're going to be watching to see how good / what type of program they are.

His first year here, he had two things: a really nice sit-out class, and a team that played extremely hard. I'm not sure where they're sitting for sit-outs, but I don't remember any big splashes there. If that's the case, they better hope these guys come together quickly and play their asses off.

Fred was .500 in his first season here. It'll be interesting if he can match that there. I'm guessing he won't hit that mark, but maybe that's just me being a hater.

Remember, too, that team was the back of the bench for the previous year.

Garrett
Staiger -- left the team, who can blame him in hindsight
Gilstrap -- graduated
Brackins -- went pro
Hamilton -- wanted to be closer to Utah... in Louisiana
---
Colvin -- dismissed or left the team, who really cares
Christopherson
Dendy -- same deal, who cares

Became...

Garrett -- moved from the 4th/5th best starter to a starring role
Christopherson -- turned into a great shooter and starter sudenly
Anderson -- found under a rock in DeKalb, nice player
Ejim -- the freshman version with rocks for hand
Vanderbeken -- maybe the goofiest guy to ever come out of goofy Canada
---
Palo -- a freshman walk-on
Godfrey -- a last-minute pick-up

...and they were just as good if not better despite losing so much talent, including a national JUCO player of the year and two guys who played in the NBA.

That team played hard and played above its talent. I could see even a few games in that Fred was a much better coach with what he had than McDermott was.

Blurb on Kennedy Chandler and DJ Steward after USA who hold a ISU offers.
https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/usa-basketball-the-rivals-awards

THE PLAYMAKER - Kennedy Chandler - 2021
Why him?: It would be hard to argue that any guard more consistently made plays off the dribble for himself and others. Chandler is sneaky quick and athletic but his greatest gift is the ability to make quality decisions at full speed. It's one thing to play fast, but to play at the speed he does while rarely turning the ball over or making poor decisions. He had a huge summer leading MoKan Elite to a Peach Jam title and was terrific in Colorado Springs.

Recruitment: Chandler's recruitment has exploded as Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Murray State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and more have offered since the beginning of spring.

THE SHARPSHOOTER - DJ Steward -2020
Why him?: DJ Steward does a litany of things well but what he is great at comes in the shot making department. Questions remain at what position on the floor he can and will play at the next level but every time that he is out on the floor, he seemingly finds a way to make for a positive impact. The long-armed guard was the best shot maker from beginning to end in Colorado Springs and is willing to abide to whichever role that he is given, hence why he has quickly become a national target.

Recruitment: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville and Texas are just a few that are heavily invested within his recruitment but Duke’s entrance has changed some things. He has already taken an official visit to Texas and should seen begin to schedule a handful of others within the coming weeks.

Way up there
@AlexHalsted Iowa State is in the mix for the 2021 point guard. Sallis is the cousin of Cyclones running back Breece Hall (VIP).

If you are in the Omaha area, this kid plays for Milliard North, in addition to Sallis, they have 2 other players with HM offers plus Jadin Johson 3* that transferred from Council Bluffs AL who is getting interest from d1 programs. Might be worth a trip to watch these guys, they should be pretty solid.

Looks like the staff has identified and got in early on another prospect who will be rising in the rankings.

"Speaking guys that I feel we will need consider for the next rankings update, how about 6-foot-6 wing Alex Fudge.

A Floridian playing for Chandler Parson 16U squad, Fudge is far from a finished product but there sure is a lot to like about his long term potential.

He's a legit 6-foot-6 wing with athleticism, a workable jump shot and some potential off the dribble. He looks to me like the kind of kid that high majors in the Southeast covet and I think that he'll really see his stock soar over the next year.
I give credit to Iowa State and TCU of the Big 12 for already jumping in on him as out of region schools and others like South Florida, North Florida, Louisiana and Stetson have offered as well. But, I'm fully expecting his offer list to include ACC and SEC programs in the relatively near future."

Holmgren also noted that he may take an unofficial visit to Iowa State in two weeks with a close friend that is committed to the school for football.

ISU sure does get a lot of MPLS kids to check us out casually... can never seem to really be seriously considered... let alone land a commitment from.

Hmm... full court press on Chet early this fall, guessing the visit this weekend went well. Probably trying to lock in a visit with Suggs too.

@RyanJamesMN Memphis Head Coach Penny Hardaway will be at @Minnehaha_BBall today to see Jalen Suggs, Chet Holmgren, Prince Aligbe & Chase Carter. Iowa State is back as well with assistant James Kane seeing the players.
