That's a cool looking insect.

I swear a few summers ago I saw a grasshopper with a gold-colored chrome head, but the picture didn't turn out and then it jumped away.

It looks like earwigs are pretty harmless to people, and the idea that they will crawl in your ear is more of a myth. Still, I’d have to agree with Argent and kill it with fire!

Assuming the diameter of that tree is 16", it would appear to be about 8" in length. Which means it could only be the earwig's deadly cousin, the asswig.
