I believe Campbell is a great coach, but you do realize Iowa has a better history of sending players to the pros? So what makes you believe a player would choose Campbell over Ferentz. Ferentz has a longer resume and more respect nationally. Campbell really has not proved anything to this point. He has work to do in order to be on Ferentz's level. Iowa State has work to do in order to be on Iowa's level as a football program. I like that Iowa State is trending in the right direction (it makes the game between Iowa and Iowa State relevant), but two seasons of going 8-5 is not anything to brag about.

Honestly, ISU is at a higher level right now. Gotta prove it on the field this fall, but they have a lot more national momentum and hype. Plus they’re not conservative and boring and their HC isn’t an old grandpa.

Please explain why ISU is at a higher level because of national momentum and hype.

I think he means it as we're the new shiny hip thing, which we are. Iowa has been solid for years and has had some good teams. But at this very moment, Iowa State is the hot item.

Ferentz vs Campbell in recruiting since 2016 using 247

average class rank for Ferentz 42, Campell 52

Average finish in the big 12 for Campbell, 7/10

Average finish in the big 10 for Ferentz. 8.5/14

So if ISU was in the big 10 they would be right around 10 or 11 in the big 10 annually under Campbell.

I can buy that, but you will soon be replaced by Nebraska unfortunately. Unless ISU goes 10-2 not sure you will maintain that hype with another 8-5 type season.

Bless your heart if you really think it's that cut and dry....

Nebraska's success really has no bearing on Iowa State though... If Nebby is truly turning the corner it will impact Iowa ten times more than it would Iowa State.

I think taking over a program that had been pulling in classes in the 60s and 70s and getting the most recent class in the 40s is a sign of tremendous progress. Not to mention, that was done without the benefit of a legacy or local guy that was rated highly like a Lazard or Campos.
It's early, but there are signs that the staff has an eye for underrated guys like Rose.

Getting the wins the past two seasons, including all of those vs. top 10 teams with those previous classes suggests he's getting a lot out of the talent he has, all while being in only his 3rd year of power conference coaching. No guarantees, but there is clearly momentum for ISU football.

Recruiting, it would be a wash though. And I am saying it regarding national attention. It will be a what have you done for me lately thing and ISU will fall back if they have another above average season instead of a huge 10-2 type year.

You spent the time and did proper math and counted the years that the B1G had 11,12, and then 14 teams?
I accounted for the time that Campbell has been in Iowa State. Comparing it to the increased recruiting at Iowa during that same time frame. No need to include the realignment that happened in 2014.
