At first, I was going to respond that he was a decent 3pt shooter. But, I looked at his % on ESPN. I was surprised to see that it was less than 30%! Perhaps the perception that he is a good 3pt shooter comes from the fact that he had an occasional 2-3, 3-4 or 2-5 3pt shooting line. Of course, if you are left open for 3 seconds on the perimeter, you'd expect that a D1 bball player could make more than 33% from that distance. It will be interesting to see how Garza's percentage is affected by the extension of the 3pt line this year.Garza can't shoot or defend
I'm not sure if he's scared of spiders or not.
53% from the floor ain’t badGarza can't shoot or defend
53% from the floor ain’t bad
Garza is a good crafty post player down low and has really good footwork. He is not a terrible shooter but he's also not a good shooter. He shoots 29% from the three, which is not very good. He also rarely takes any mid range shots so his overall 55% from the floor comes from his low post shots. The thing he does a good job of is not shooting a lot of threes. He only averages 2.3 3 point shots a game, while only making .7 of them. If he was going 2-10 and 3-10 on a consistent basis you would not think he was a good shooter.
There was another article posted today on Black Heart Gold Pants discussing the nature of transferring in college athletics. The article talked about how Fran has never dipped into the transfer market besides Uthoff, stating Fran has made numerous claims about how grad transfers should not be able to play right away (stupid claim). The article went on and looked at how Kirk has been able to get some transfers and help out the football team, and also looked into the potential grad transfer from Valpo and how he'd fit into the team. What stuck out to me was at the end of this piece, the writer made a back handed comment towards transferring, "Happy Monday. Have a great week. And remember, if things aren't going well, you can always just transfer."
That sounds like someone who is pretty dang salty about the fact that Iowa is not a hot spot for good transfers to go to, and completely throws the players that did just transfer from there under the bus.
