Cliche but Field of Dreams.
I think baseball movies fit the bill more for these as they tend to revolve around the 'mystique' of the sport.

I can't remember the exact line but when they are talking about the race one of the kids mentions that his dad loves to see him fail and that he has a birthday soon.

i forgot about breaking away.... that is a suprisingly good watch for a movie about biking. Like really good.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I want to give Cinderella Man some love.
I am not a crier......but that movie still makes me verklempt. I know what you are saying about cliche....the soundtrack/musical score of that movie is just made for mind control....but it just works.
