As good as Dustin is, this isn't the kind of course that favors him. Shotmakers do well at Augusta, guys who are clever around the greens. IOW, accuracy trumps distance. (Not trying to talk down to you - I know you know the game!)
Tiger used to be a bomber - and occasionally he still is - but he also was a great shotmaker and a better than average putter.
I like Rory, too - and I would keep my eye on Justin Thomas.
Augusta tests a skill that is rarely tested. Uneven lies. Pretty much everything is some sort of downhil, uphill or sidehill lie into a green complex that demands precision. So, guys have to drive the ball well enough, but the important thing is the second shot. Theoretically, the best iron player who putts pretty decent will win. I don't think that's DJ. He just seems like a swinger, not a hitter. Spieth is a hitter. It's why he's so good there. Tiger, though he has had a massive power advantage in the past, won because of what he has done with irons. It's kind of amazing to me JDay has been in the positions he's been in there because he's not a great iron player.
I don't think the Kisners and Kuchars of the world can win there, though. It's just too long in places. 5 is adding a bunch of strokes for those guys. The approach on 15, with a 5 iron, is ridiculously hard and they will have more than that. They just have to be so flawless everywhere else that I just don't find it likely that they will win. What Reed did last year was crazy because if I remember right he was doing so much around the greens and that's not typically how you win. You have to hit greens. From the tee, Rory is built for Augusta. Can he control his distance which is the most important part of iron play there? Can JT putt well there?
