Why is our local media so obsessed with this?

To be fair, this thread is long so we’re obviously interested.

But think about how many articles, podcasts, radio segments, and news stories have been focused on this over the last few weeks.

Exactly.
Competing for recruits is more tangible, but the brand and market share threat is significant. Nebraska basketball didn’t get more than a mention under Miles/Sadler/etc. It’s the ISU brand under the guise of Nebraska, and the media will extract value from that. Just wait until Hoiberg has any type of success. Prohm will be sharing the non-Iowa spotlight.
