Couldn't you just get a new battery, or am I reading your problem wrong?
No youre not. I should have clarified. The battery should last several years before being replaced. The thing never ran or needed to and was dead in two months. Something is off with it.

Ah, I think I'd invest in a new battery before you go, as it should at least work for this event. Could be your other battery was just bad too?

Saw on the Weather Channel this morning in Ottumwa where they had ice jams go into a campground that had campers and boats sitting there. Ice chunks looked about 1' thick. The county roads are already in bad shape with all the rain we've had.

Husband's coworker was one of the ones that lost her camper in that. T'was not good.

Just got off phone with a guy in Norfolk, NE. He said there are a lot of road closings in NE Nebraska and rain still coming down.

They had to close some roads in Omaha because the potholes are so bad. You really are taking your life in your hands driving about town. I still can't believe the people that still absolutely refuse to slow down and just ram the potholes.

I live in CR and last week they were already predicting a 66% chance ( 4X normal) chance of major flooding.

Also, talked to guy in Memphis last week and he said a lot of the flood gates on lower Mississippi River are already shut or close to shut as NOLA can't take much more water. Could be an ugly spring.

Have a guy I work with in Arkansas that has been getting pounded with rain every 3-5 days. He told me that the Mississippi is currently at it's fifth highest level on record in Memphis. Thinking of all the snowpack north of there does not bode well for people in the south. Sand bags will be at a premium!!

I have two triangular flat roof sections, only a couple hundred SF though. Not concerned because I was my own prime and had final say on everything and I'm not a code minimum kinda guy. It's hell for stout and all the structural was design by a structural engineer so it's not a builder special. Has wide scupper openings and open downspouts that don't freeze closed. It really was not that much more $$$ to "gold plate" the structure and materials but general builders will cut everything to the edge of legal acceptance cause money rules.

BTW, what did you use for your snow density?

Our flat roof is 750 SF. My quick google search came up with 50 pcf for wet snow. Water is 62.4 pcf and ice is 56.2 pcf. So 50 is probably conservative. Given that I had a foot of snow, that would be 50 psf. Design code is something like 25-35 psf. However, this part of our house was built in the 70s and I know the previous owner liked to do his own work. So I have no idea if it wasbuilt to code.

All that resulted in me raking my roof off at 530am before the rain hit. It probably would have been fine to leave it be, but it made me nervous enough to rake it off.

The Driveway Glacier is back and defying the trend of glaciers worldwide that are all receding. It's flowing into the even larger Alley Glacier. When it does finally recede I hope to find some cool artifacts, maybe an iceman mummy or a crashed DC-3 wreck.

Mine hasn't even started running, because the frost is still pretty deep. At least in northern Iowa, the melting is surface level stuff that's not even penetrating the ground, and just running off into rivers and streams.

Yeah, just wait until these field ponds burn through the frost and the tile let loose. I'm hoping that takes a few days, but I'm not sure with the amount of ponding in the fields.

We finished our basement this winter and debated on installing a sump pump. We've lived here for 6 years and never had a drop of water in the basement, even with the 9" rain fall this past summer. We decided to install one to be on the safe side. After seeing all the reports today of people who usually never have basement issues, I'm glad we installed the sump pump "just in case".

It sounds like it is not charging. Do you have a volt/ohm meter? Check the voltage. If it is charging it should be a little over 13volts to 14.5

Sump pump is running every 3-5 minutes now. Where water has stood or ran the ground has thawed. I saw this on Gold Rush a couple of episodes where they took sprinklers out to thaw the pay out.

I took the scraper out and was surprised at how far it went in some places, and dug a trench ot get the water to the front of the house. So far fingers are crossed. Already have three areas that are weeping in as long as it stays that way.

I use nylon stockings and buy the non corrosive snow melt in bulk. Put in a rock, to weigh it down, then fill with the snow melt. Works just as well as the pucks, but it's a lot cheaper way to go about it.

Sounds like it would work good but for the $10 savings, I don't think the effort would be worth it for me. I'd have to retrieve the nylon stockings and hope one doesn't clog the drain or downspout.

That's what the rock in the stocking is for, it will keep it where you put it. and $10? I bought 50 pounds of the snow melt for the price of 14 pounds of the roof pucks.

They certainly are a little easier, I will say that, but I had issues with them lasting more than one season. The ones I had left over, just crumbled into powder by the next winter. Just throwing out suggestions for those that might care.

the field drainage to the west is about 2ft deep of slush/water and runs down my driveway due to the pile of snow at the end of the street. Not looking forward to the predicted rain later tonight, tried clearing some of the snow pack to let it drain more so there is a channel for it to run through at least.

Pretty sure something is wrong with your insulation if your getting ice jams on the roof. Either your ventilation system is blocked or you need more insulation.

Get a free Aliant Energy Audit and you’ll might qualify for a rebate on insulation installation. We did it on our old house and got $3000 off.
