Why do people share recipes for vegan meatballs? Doesn't the name meatball imply that they are made of meat? Wouldn't a true vegan be against using the word meat as it promotes eating meat?
I guess the word meatball sounds more appetizing than mashed lentils and other crap balls.

Overheard at the restaurant: "I'll have the spaghetti with vegan balls."

Not exactly sure.

Know what you mean. I still get queasy thinking of that veggie burger I got in Rochester. Plain nasty. If that makes you live extra five years but you suffer eating that crap, I will forgoe those five.

A high school friend lives in NW Arkansas. Evidently they aren't as good in that area.

History[edit]
Dan Foley opened the first Taco Tico in 1962,[1] in his native Wichita, Kansas, and began franchising new locations in 1967. The company was a regional hit by 1980.

In 1988, Foley sold the company and chain to a former executive from KFC. The meat recipe, which gave Taco Tico tacos their unique flavor, was changed at that time. The meat, at that time, was sent to the stores in frozen tubes from the main distribution center. The new flavoring was unpopular and Taco Tico has since switched back to the original.

As of 2014, there are locations throughout the Midwest and Southeastern states. Newer buildings are adobe with teal-green and orange awnings, signs, and trim.

On March 5, 2013, 10 restaurants were closed by the Kansas Department of Revenue for failure to remit $434,939.23 in sales tax.[2] The restaurants were later reopened after a bankruptcy filing and a deal between Ajax International Group and the Kansas Department of Revenue.[3] Three independently-franchised locations were unaffected by the closure or bankruptcy filing.

On July 11, 2013, the State of Kansas re-closed 10 Taco-Tico franchises for failure to pay state taxes.[4]

Three remaining Wichita-area Taco Tico restaurants closed in August and September 2013.[5]

On February 5, 2014, the new owner reopened one of the former Wichita, KS locations (13th Street & Tyler Road), with plans to open at least four more stores in Wichita by the end of 2014.[6] Stores have also reopened in Arkansas City, Augusta, Derby, and Newton, KS.

On October 25, 2014, one of the closed locations in Topeka, KS reopened after being purchased by new owners.[7]

As of October 2016, fourteen Taco Tico locations remain in the United States.[8]

Actually (and this just negates all those pages of Taco Tico posts from earlier) the best Mexican food in Fort Dodge is at Hacienda Vieja in the Crossroads Mall. Raul and Delfina really do a great job. They also have a location in Grimes, in the strip mall opposite the McDonald's out by Hwy 141.

Chaser since nobody answered your question. Taco Tico is a Mexican restaurant small chain it is reasonable and pretty good. Fort Dodge actually has some pretty good local restaurants Tico gets counted along with J-Mar, Tom thumb. Then Sports Page, Mineral City, Olde Boston all ran by the same people/group. @SCyclone can fill this in more than me.

There are 2 or 3 newer local Mexican places but Tico keeps surviving been there since the 70's I'm pretty sure.
My memory may be a little off but if it serves me correctly, every 10-15 years, one of these places gets a grease fire which also happens to correspond to when they need remodeling. @SCyclone - Is my memory off?

Also, J-Mar and Tom Thumb are really good fast/quick food places.

Didn't we talk blood pressure here before? Seem to think @wxman1 had vessel bursting levels or something. Anywho (note CG-ish segue), my blood pressure has popped up since last fall. Spiked at a specialists visit last week to 150 and down to 129 something when they checked when I left. Suggested I follow up with GP doctor. Did that Monday and think we had a 140ish but she didn't seem to alarmed but thought I should buy a BP monitor. Did that. Used it for the first time this morning 129/81. Checked after running three miles this afternoon and it was 110/69. Rechecked, 115/73. Seems weird to me after hitting 150 at one dr visit and 140 something at another.

Full disclosure, I've been listening to mellow jazz and HAVE NOT turned on any national news. Could be contributing factors.
My doc always gets a lower reading than the pretty nurse.

@BoxsterCy, I'm a big smooth jazz fan myself. Who are you listening to lately?

Comcast cable has a bunch of music channels and just started listening to their smooth jazz channel lately as my home background music. They play some good stuff and throw up little tidbits on the screen about the artists. Used to listen to this stuff more years ago, some Dave Grusin, Bob James etc. Talking LP spinning days.

On my 40th birthday, I climbed Mt Whitney with my brother and we slept under the stars at 12,000 ft. I absolutely loved it. Totally peaceful.

I'd like get my wife and daughter to do something similar sometime, but I'll have a lot of work to do to convince them to rough it.
Hiked that at the end of a month long backpacking trip, when I got out of the Navy. Our goal was to be at the top by noon on the 4th of July--made it at 11 am. On July 3rd we were still 25 miles away, but pulled on our shoes and hiked 17 and camped. The last 8 miles to the top took us about 3 hours. I slept under the stars most nights that month -- awesome!

Wichita has to be the restaurateur capital of the Midwest. Pizza Hut and Freddys were also started there. I am glad it clarified that it was started again down there in 2014 because I don't remember any when we were down there.

They also added a Casey's not too far from where our house was since we left.

We did it all the time when I was young. The back of our property was up against an 80 acre pasture. We had 3 permanent campsites and would sometimes set up a makeshift one. We would camp out 2-3 times a week in the summer when I was about 12-15. There was a farmer in Moingona (just west of Boone) that used to let us camp on his property by the Des Moines river. Every spring we would camp there for a weekend.
I will never forget going out to sleep with my older brother in this ancient, tiny canvas tent one night. We wanted to rough it so we pitched the tent on the spot on our property that was as far as possible from the house. I woke up in the middle of the night to a big breeze and rain. In about 10 minutes I saw a guy building an ark and there were lightning strikes everywhere. My brother told me to wait for one to hit close to us and then sprint for the house. One hit a tree about 50 feet from us and I shot out of that tent like I was shot out of a cannon.

I lived.

I generally slept in a camper when camping as a kid. We had a soft side pop up but it was pretty cozy with 7 of us in it.
