The entire Big 12 is in the Top 50...

Good in the sense if we can go 9-9 or 10-8 in the conference, could have us dancing.

Doesn't pre- and early-season kenpom factor the previous few seasons performances to an extent? I think we are now benefiting from the same thing that had us under ranked early in all those late hoiberg years

I hope that’s not true...More important than 34th nationally is being 9th in the Big 12. Ouch, that's not a good sign.

Thank goodness it’s likely distorted due to having so many new guys. On the other hand, oh man, we have so many new guys.

These numbers are useless other than to create some chatter. Missouri played Ku tough yesterday and led for much of the game. That shows how bad the rankings are for preseason having the Tigers in the 80's. I will agree with their top - Ku - and bottom - oSu - team placements though.

One thing kenpom uses in his preseason is a 4-year program baseline and we've finished 16, 17, 20, and 20 the last 4 years, so we could be returning nobody and still have a decent rating.

That's really interesting. Has he released an article or anything that gives an explanation for how he calculates preseason rankings?

An exhibition game doesn't show you anything about preseason rankings.

I can't find the original article that explains it all, but this ones provides a little more detail on what he considers. I'm not sure if he included specific home-court advantage this year, because I'm pretty sure ours is closer to 4.00 than the 3.75 points he's used before.

Texas is 37, Kansas State is 39, and Oklahoma State is 50. Can we get a math check in here about Iowa State being 9th?
I’m going off the previous poster, but the general point remains either way. I don’t think anyone thinks there is that direct of a correlation.
